Cardinal O'Donnell Cup
The Cardinal O'Donnell Cup is an annual senior league competition organised by Louth GAA for the Division 1 teams in Gaelic football in County Louth. Format All 12 teams play each other once, with the top four traditionally qualifying for the semi-final stage. The semi-final victors then face off in the final of the competition. There is also relegation to Division 2 for the worst-performing team(s). Trophy The winning team is presented with the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup, named after Patrick O'Donnell, who was Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland from 1924 until his death in October 1927. The trophy, which was donated to the County Board of Louth GAA by the Cardinal in 1926,is a replica of the Ardagh Chalice. The inaugural winners of the competition were Wolfe Tones of Drogheda. LMFM
LMFM is an independent Local Radio station based in Drogheda, Ireland. In terms of listenership, It is the largest radio station in Ireland outside of Dublin and Cork broadcasting to a population in excess of 300,000 adults. Media group UTV Media, now Wireless Group, bought the station in a deal worth about €10 million in 2005. LMFM broadcasts on a number of frequencies, the main being either 95.8FM or 95.5FM. The station is licensed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to service both Counties Louth & Meath. The station also has a strong listenership in counties Dublin, Kildare, Cavan, Monaghan and Armagh in Northern Ireland. Dundalk Young Irelands GFC is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, which fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organised by the Louth county board. The club was formed in the same year as the Gaelic Athletic Association, making it the oldest club in Louth and one of the oldest in Ireland. History The club was founded in 1884 by members of the Dundalk Young Ireland Society. A team was entered in the inaugural Louth Senior Football Championship of 1887 which went on to win the competition, defeating Dowdallshill in the final on a scoreline of 0–03 to 0–02. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was also held for the first time that year. As county champions, Young Irelands represented Louth and reached the final after wins over the champions of Waterford and Wexford. Glyde Rangers GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is based in the County Louth village of Tallanstown, eleven kilometres southwest of Dundalk. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Junior Championship and Division 3A of the county football Leagues. At underage level, Glyde Rangers regularly combine with Tallanstown parish neighbours Westerns, Seán McDermott's and John Mitchels to enter teams in competitions under the banner of 'Baile Talún'. St Fechin's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in the seaside village of Termonfeckin, part of Beaulieu parish. Former Louth county footballer Fr Shane Cullen helped found the club in 1941. Paddy McGlew, who played football with the club, was Chairman of Louth GAA from 1988 to 1991. In the late 1990s St Fechin's purchased a 27-acre site at Beaulieu, which would become their new home. The official opening was performed by then GAA president Seán Kelly in August 2003. Dreadnots GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in the south Louth seaside village of Clogherhead. Oliver Plunketts GFC is a GAA club located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. From its base on the Slane road, the club serves the Mell Parish in West Drogheda and fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. In 1957 the club won the Louth Senior Football Championship, defeating St Mary's of Ardee. Mattock Rangers Gaelic Athletic Association is a Gaelic football, camogie, hurling and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Collon, County Louth, Republic of Ireland. 2] 4] History The club was founded in 1952 and is named after the Mattock River, a tributary of the River Boyne, Boyne. Dundalk Gaels GFC is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland which fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organized by Louth GAA. Catchment area The club recruits members from such neighbourhoods as the Carrick Road, Avenue Road, Hill Street, Dublin Road and the Friary school area. Many past and present players of the Gaels were educated at Friary National school. Current status Managed by Cathal O'Hanlon, Gaels are currently the only Dundalk town club competing at senior championship level in Louth football. Their Division 1 League status was lost however after a relegation play-off defeat to Dreadnots in October of 2022. Rivalries The club's principal rivals are cross-town neighbours Clan Na Gael, to whom they lost in the 1992 Louth SFC final replay.
