Mattock Rangers GAA
Mattock Rangers Gaelic Athletic Association is a Gaelic football, camogie, hurling and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Collon, County Louth, Republic of Ireland. 2] 4] History The club was founded in 1952 and is named after the Mattock River, a tributary of the River Boyne, Boyne. They won a Louth Junior Football Championship county football title in 1961 and a Louth Intermediate Football Championship title in 1982. Mattock lost their first four Louth Senior Football Championship finals, in 1973, 1976, 1962 and 2001. Senior success finally came in 2002; in that year, Mattock Rangers reached the final of the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, losing to Dunshaughlin. They have won three more senior titles since then. The hurlers have never been county champions, but reached the final of the Louth Senior Hurling Championship in 2011. Collon
Collon () is a village and townland in the south west corner of County Louth, Ireland, on the N2 road (Ireland), N2 national primary road. The village is home to the Cistercian Abbey of New Mellifont, and to Collon House, the ancestral home of the Foster family. History The Church of Ireland parish church at the lower end was built in 1810 to a design by Daniel Augustus Beaufort who was the rector between 1789 and 1821. There is a memorial in the graveyard at the front of the church to men of the parish who died during the 1914–18 Great War, inscribed on the front is the name of Lt. James Emerson Victoria Cross, V.C. who was born in the village. The church has been described as "dramatic and atmospheric" and hosted the 2008 Ardee Baroque Festival. The Foster Family first settled in Dunleer in County Louth in 1660 until they moved into their estate in the heart of Collon in 1744, which can still be seen today. Leinster Senior Club Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament played on a knockout basis between the senior club championship winners of the competing counties in Leinster. The current holders of the Leinster title are Ballyboden St. Enda's from Dublin. Offaly side Gracefield were the first winners of the Leinster senior club football championship in the 1970–71 season. The most successful clubs are St. Vincent's from Dublin and Portlaoise from Laois, who have won the Leinster championship on seven occasions. Carlow club Éire Óg won 5 championships in 7 years in the 1990s. Dublin clubs have won the Leinster championship twenty one times, which is more than double any other county. The Louth Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition, organised by Louth GAA and contested by the junior One/A grade Gaelic football clubs in County Louth, Ireland. The winner qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Junior Club Football Championship, the winner of which then progresses to represent Leinster in the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship. Honours The winning team is presented with the Christy Bellew Cup, named after the Drogheda GAA official and Killineer Larks club member who was chairman of Louth GAA in the 1920s. The Louth Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition, organised by Louth GAA, among the intermediate grade Gaelic football clubs in County Louth, Ireland. History The competition, introduced as a bridge between the senior and junior grades, was first staged in 1907 and annually until 1912, when the county board discontinued it. It was revived 32 years later in 1944. However, the competition was only staged twice before it lapsed again. It re-emerged permanently on the county scene in 1978 with Kilkerley Emmets becoming the first winners of the Seamus Flood Cup. Trophy The winning team is presented with the Seamus Flood Cup, named after the Dundalk GAA official (d. April 1970) and Clan na Gael club member who was chairman of Leinster GAA from 1939 to 1941. Dunshaughlin ( Irish: ''Domhnach Seachnaill'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Dunshaughlin, in County Meath, Ireland. The club competes at intermediate level in the Football championship. Formed in 1886, it is one of the oldest still-active clubs in Meath. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands).
