Caramoan Peninsula
The Caramoan National Park is a national park and protected area in Camarines Sur, Philippines. It was established in 1938. The park has caves, limestone formations, white sandy beaches, an islet lake and a subterranean river, make it popular with tourists. It is accessible by public transport from the municipality of Caramoan, and local people have established trails in the park for visitors. Geography The national park is located in the Caramoan Peninsula, a hilly peninsula in north-east Camarines Sur, Bicol Region, Philippines with deep gorges and a rough, rocky terrain. It is also an Important Bird Area with habitat for the green racket-tail (''Prioniturus luconensis''). Camarines Sur ( bcl, Habagatan na Camarines; tl, Timog Camarines), officially the Province of Camarines Sur, is a province in the Philippines located in the Bicol Region on Luzon. An Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) is an area identified using an internationally agreed set of criteria as being globally important for the conservation of bird populations. Green Racket-tail
The green racket-tail (''Prioniturus luconensis'') is an endemic parrot of the Philippines where it is found on Luzon and Marinduque. This species was once common, but is rapidly declining and is currently classified as endangered due to lowland deforestation and capture for cage-bird trade. The population is now estimated to be just 1,000 - 2,499 mature individuals and is continuing to decline with many local extinctions in its former range. Description Ebird describes this bird as "A rare medium-sized parrot of lowland and foothill forest on Luzon. The two central tail feathers have extended shafts ending in a racket shape.
