Capçanes
Capçanes is a Catalan village in the province of Tarragona in north-eastern Spain. It is situated in the comarca of Priorat. Geography Capçanes is situated about 7 km (4.4 mi) south of Falset, 40 km (25 mi) west of Tarragona, and about 160 km (100 mi) south-west of Barcelona. Economy The village's main activity is agriculture, predominantly wine-growing, but also olive and almond production. Priorat
Priorat () is a comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain. The central part of the comarca, "Priorat històric," produces the highly regarded wines that are certified under the DOQ Priorat. Wines from elsewhere in the comarca are certified as DO Montsant although this region also has a small segment of the neighboring comarca, Ribera d'Ebre as well. However, galena mining was the main activity since prehistoric times until 1972, when the last galeana mine closed. The other main agricultural activity is the production of olives and olive oil, the latter of which is certified under DOP Siurana. Historically there was greater production of hazelnuts and almonds but these activities have become mostly for personal use. In late 1800s, a devastating attack of the insect phylloxera destroyed vines and mining kept activities and around twenty mines opened at that time. Tivissa
Tivissa is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Ribera d'Ebre, Catalonia, Spain. It is located below the La Llena massif. As well as the village of Tivissa itself, the municipality also includes the village of La Serra d'Almos, at the feet of the Montalt mountains, and the hamlets of Darmós and Llaberia. History The area was settled in prehistoric times, and cave paintings have been discovered in several sites near the village. In Iberian times, Tivissa was an important community, and the name itself may be of Iberian origin. There are the remains of an Iberian settlement at Banyoles, some five kilometres from the modern village and overlooking the Ebre river. The importance of these settlements was surely related to their position on the route through the pass of Coll de Fatxes, leading from the coast of Tarragona to what is now Zaragoza. Marçà
Marçà is a municipality in the comarca of Priorat, Tarragona Province, Catalonia, Spain. History In medieval times, after the area had been reconquered from the Saracens, the town became part of the Barony of Entença. The now ruined Sant Marçal monastery was founded in 1611. A local road links the village to the N-420 road between Falset and Móra la Nova. The Guiamets reservoir is on an affluent of the Siurana (Tarragona). This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Comarques have no particular relation to the "counties" that were ruled by counts.
