''Captain Marvel'' is a 2019 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet also contributing to the screenplay. Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, alongside Samuel L. Anna Boden and Ryan K. Fleck are an American filmmaking duo. They are best known for their collaborations on the films '' Half Nelson'', ''Sugar'', '' It's Kind of a Funny Story'', '' Mississippi Grind'' and '' Captain Marvel''. Early life Boden is originally from Massachusetts and grew up in Newton while Fleck graduated from Castro Valley High School. Before attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he studied film, Fleck went to Diablo Valley College to study science and math. Boden attended Columbia University. Carol Susan Jane Danvers is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
