Capital Railway
The Trillium Line (french: Ligne Trillium), also called O-Train Line 2 (french: Ligne 2 de l'O-Train), is a diesel light rail transit (DLRT) service in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, operated by OC Transpo. The line has been closed since May 2020 for service expansion. Part of the O-Train light rail system, the line runs north–south for between Bayview and Greenboro. The line is a single track, with three passing sidings on dedicated rights-of-way shared with Ottawa Central freight trains south of Walkley Yard, which occasionally serve the National Research Council of Canada's Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Centre. Despite being a local public transit line, it is actually a federally regulated mainline railway and operated under the official name "Capital Railway", which appears on the trains in addition to the service's logo. Trillium Railway
The Trillium Railway is a Canadian short-line railroad operating in the province of Ontario. Much of its right-of-way in the Niagara area was formerly part of the " Welland Canal Railway" (also known as the Welland Railway) that closely followed the route of the second Welland Canal. Trillium Railway began operations in 1997 with only eleven kilometres of railway, all of which were located in Port Colborne. With an expansion in 1998, Trillium added 55 kilometres of track between Delhi and St. Thomas. Another expansion in 1999 added another 55 kilometres of track in Welland, Thorold, and St. Catharines. In the Niagara Region, Trillium's trackage, referred to as Port Colborne Harbour Railway, is made up of Canadian National's former secondary and branch lines, including a number of urban spurs, on the west side of the Canal. Ottawa Central Railway
The Ottawa Central Railway was a Canadian short-line railroad subsidiary of the Canadian National Railway. The headquarters were at the Walkley Yard, 3141 Albion Road South, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The OCRR was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Quebec Railway Corporation (QCR). It consisted of former CN subdivisions, and operated between Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, at an interchange with the CN Montreal-Toronto main line, to Ottawa and Pembroke, Ontario. The OCRR started operations on December 13, 1998, and two years later, QRC acquired the assets of Ontario L'Orignal Railway from RailAmerica. The Talent is a multiple unit railcar manufactured by Bombardier that was developed by Waggonfabrik Talbot in Aachen shortly before the company was acquired by Bombardier in 1995. The name ''Talent'' is an acronym in German for ''TALbot LEichter Nahverkehrs-Triebwagen'' (in English, ''Talbot light suburban railcar''). Bytown And Prescott Railway
The Bytown and Prescott Railway (B&PR) was a railway joining Ottawa (then called Bytown) with Prescott, Ontario, Prescott on the Saint Lawrence River. The company was incorporated in 1850, and the first train ran from Prescott into Bytown on Christmas Day, 1854. The 84 km (52 mile) railway, Ottawa's first to outside markets, was initially used to ship lumber collected on the Ottawa River for further shipping along the St. Lawrence to markets in the United States and Montreal. Bytown became Ottawa in 1855, and the railway changed its name to match, becoming the Ottawa and Prescott Railway (O&PR). The operating company went bankrupt and re-formed in 1866 as the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Railway. Prescott, Ontario is a small town on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Canada. In 2021, the town had a population of 4,078. The Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge, east of Prescott at Johnstown, connects the town with Ogdensburg, New York. The town is about an hour from both Ottawa and Kingston. Carleton Station
Carleton is a light rail station located along the Trillium Line at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Carleton is currently the only O-Train station along the Trillium Line with separate tracks and platforms for each direction, in order to allow the two trains working the otherwise single-track line at any given time to pass. The schedule is timed such that the southbound train arrives first and moves onto the platform siding, and then proceeds once the northbound train has entered the station. South of Carleton, the train crosses the Rideau River by a bridge. North of Carleton, the train heads into a tunnel under the Rideau Canal. The station is named for nearby Carleton University.
