Cape Verdean Cuban are Cuban citizens or residents whose ancestry originated in Cape Verde. Cape Verde and Cuba have had a long history. The first people from Cape Verde to Cuba came involuntarily. In 1526, the "first known shipment of slaves intended for sale in Cuba carries 145 Africans from Cabo Verde to the island." More slaves from Cape Verde would follow. This would include the ancestor of Roel Caboverde Llacer, a famous Cuban artist. Cuba and Cape Verde established diplomatic relations in September 1975, a few months after Cape Verdean independence. Roel Caboverde Llacer
Roel Caboverde Llacer (born November 20, 1947 in Baracoa, Cuba) is a Cuban painter. He grew up in the towns of La Poa and Moa and started his painting career as a house painter followed by work painting signs. He even painted murals during his service in the military. After the service, Caboverde Llacer trained as a visual arts instructor in the School of Fine Arts in the provincial capital of Guantánamo, graduating in 1987. His paintings have been exhibited in the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, United States, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Japan. Caboverde Llacer's great-grandmother was a slave from Cape Verde, named Caridad Cabo Verde. Germano Almeida
Germano Almeida (; born 31 July 1945) is a Cape Verdean author and lawyer. Biography Born on the Cape Verdean island Boa Vista, Almeida studied law at the University of Lisbon and currently practices in Mindelo. His novels have been translated into several languages. He married Sam Stewart in 1970. Almeida founded the literary magazine ''Ponto & VĂrgula'' (1983-87) and ''Aguaviva''. In 1989 he founded the IlhĂ©u Editora publishing house and has since published 16 books (nine novels). Published works His first work was ''O dia das calças roladas'' which was about an account of a strike on the island of Santo AntĂŁo, it was first written in 1982 and was published in 1983. Pedro de Verona Rodrigues Pires (; born 29 April 1934) is a Cape Verdean politician who served as Prime Minister of Cape Verde from 1975 to 1991, and later as President from 2001 to 2011. Life and career Pires was born in SĂŁo Filipe, Fogo, Cape Verde to LuĂs Rodrigues Pires and wife Maria Fidalga Lopes. Later, he studied at Liceu Gil Eanes (Old High School) and Escola Jorge Barbosa in Mindelo during the 1950s and later abroad at the University of Lisbon in Portugal at the Faculty of Sciences. Afro-Cubans or Black Cubans are Cubans of West African ancestry. The term ''Afro-Cuban'' can also refer to historical or cultural elements in Cuba thought to emanate from this community and the combining of native African and other cultural elements found in Cuban society such as race, religion, music, language, the arts and class culture.
