Capaci
Capaci () is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Palermo in Sicily, Italy. In 2011 the comune had a population of 11,045, with a density of 1,804.7 people per square kilometre. The Autostrada A29 (Italy), A29 ''autostrada'' running from Palermo to Punta Raisi Airport, and to the west and south-west of the island, passes through the commune. On 23 May 1992, this road was the scene of the assassination of anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone and those with him, in an explosion known as the Capaci bombing. Capaci Bombing
The Capaci bombing ( it, Strage di Capaci) was a terror attack by the Sicilian Mafia that took place on 23 May 1992 on Highway A29, close to the junction of Capaci, Sicily. It killed magistrate Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo, and three police escort agents, Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro; agents Paolo Capuzza, Angelo Corbo, Gaspare Bravo and Giuseppe Costanza survived. Giovanni Falcone
Giovanni Falcone (; 18 May 1939 – 23 May 1992) was an Italian judge and prosecuting magistrate. From his office in the Palace of Justice in Palermo, Sicily, he spent most of his professional life trying to overthrow the power of the Sicilian Mafia. After a long and distinguished career, culminating in the Maxi Trial in 1986–1987, on 23 May 1992, Falcone was assassinated by the Corleonesi Mafia in the Capaci bombing, on the A29 motorway near the town of Capaci. His life parallels that of his close friend Paolo Borsellino. They both spent their early years in the same neighbourhood in Palermo. Autostrada A29 (Italy)
The Autostrada A29 is a motorway on the island of Sicily that links Palermo to Mazara del Vallo. The motorway is also called '' Autostrada del Sale'' (''Motorway of Salt'') because one of its branches ends at the ''Salt Pans'' between Marsala and Trapani. It's a four-lane motorway in its whole length. A29 entirely toll-free and managed by ANAS. Sant'Erasmo
Sant'Erasmo is an island in the Venetian Lagoon lying north-east of the Lido island and east of Venice, Italy. History The island was a port attached to Murano in the 8th century, but is now known for market gardening. Ruined fortifications, including the so-called ''Torre Massimiliana'' (Tower of Maximilian), ring the isle. Forts existed in the island as early as the 16th century. After the fall of the Republic of Venice, the French built here a stronghold in 1811–1814. After Napoleon's defeat, the Austrian Archduke Maximilian of Austria-Este had a tower built here in 1843–1844, and also found here refuge during a revolt. The tower has a polygonal base of 25 m and is surrounded by a ditch. On the upper floor up to 13 cannons could be housed. It was used by the Italian Army as late as World War I.
