Capaccio Paestum (formerly only Capaccio) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. The ruins of the ancient Greek city of Paestum lie within borders of the ''comune''. History Geography Located in northern Cilento, near the mouth of Sele, Capaccio is a hill town surrounded by a plain in which resides almost all of the hamlets (''frazioni'') and the majority of the population, mostly concentrated at Capaccio Scalo, seat of the train station. The municipality borders with Agropoli, Albanella, Cicerale, Eboli, Giungano, Roccadaspide and Trentinara. Laura (Capaccio)
Laura is a southern Italy, Italian village and hamlet (''frazione'') of Capaccio, a municipality in the province of Salerno, Campania. As of 2001 its population was of 1,301. Cilentan Coast
The Cilento Coast (Italian: ''Costiera Cilentana'') is an Italian stretch of coastline in Cilento, on the southern side of the Province of Salerno. It is situated between the gulfs of Salerno and Policastro, extending from the municipalities of Capaccio-Paestum in the north-west, to Sapri in the south-east. It is particularly known for its almost unspoiled natural landscapes and the very high cleanliness of its waters. Agropoli
Agropoli is a town and ''comune'' located in the Cilento area of the province of Salerno, Campania, Italy. It is situated at the start of the Cilentan Coast, on the Tyrrhenian Sea. History Pre-medieval period The promontory on which Agropoli stands has been inhabited since Neolithic times. It seems, however, that it was not until the later Bronze Age, Bronze and Iron Ages that it came to be continuously inhabited by a stable, Indigenous peoples, indigenous population, which lived off hunting and fishing. To the east of the promontory, at the mouth of the River Testene, there is a natural sheltered bay, called "Foce" in ancient times, but which is now almost completely silted up. Before and after the foundation of nearby Paestum, Poseidonia (c. 625 BC), the Greeks used it for trading with the local people. Sele (river)
The Sele is a river in southwestern Italy. Originating from the Monti Picentini in Caposele,Meaning "top of the Sele" it flows through the region of Campania, in the provinces of Province of Salerno, Salerno and Province of Avellino, Avellino.
