Cap Nord
''Jan Mayen'' was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine in World War II for use as a ''Vorpostenboot''. She served as V 406 ''Jan Mayen'' and V 401 ''Jan Mayen''. She was sunk at Bayonne, France in August 1944. Post-war, she was refloated and entered French merchant service as ''Cap Nord''. She was sold to the Netherlands in 1960, serving as ''s'Gravenhage'', then ''Albatros''. Converted to a cargo ship, she was sold to Panama 1974 and renamed ''Laga''. Jan Mayen
Jan Mayen () is a Norwegian volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean with no permanent population. It is long (southwest-northeast) and in area, partly covered by glaciers (an area of around the Beerenberg volcano). It has two parts: larger northeast Nord-Jan and smaller Sør-Jan, linked by a wide isthmus. It lies northeast of Iceland (495 km 05 miNE of Kolbeinsey), east of central Greenland, and west of the North Cape, Norway. The island is mountainous, the highest summit being the Beerenberg volcano in the north. Nominal Horsepower
Horsepower (hp) is a unit of measurement of power, or the rate at which work is done, usually in reference to the output of engines or motors. The leading company was the shipyard AG Weser in Bremen.
