Sa Talaiassa (), also known as Sa Talaia or Sa Talaia de Sant Josep, is the highest mountain on the island of Ibiza in the Balearic Islands of Spain. It is located in the southwest of the island. ''Talaia'', the name of the mountain, means " watchtower" in Catalan, ''Talaiassa'' referring to an especially large one. Sant Josep de sa Talaia, the island's largest municipality, is named after this mountain. Aviation Accident In 1972, an Iberia Caravelle airliner crashed into Sa Talaiassa, killing all 104 people on board. Ibiza
Ibiza (natively and officially in ca, Eivissa, ) is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea off the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. It is from the city of Valencia. It is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, in Spain. Its largest settlements are Ibiza Town ( ca, Vila d'Eivissa, or simply ), Santa Eulària des Riu, and Sant Antoni de Portmany. Sant Josep de sa Talaia (, es, San José Obrero) is a village and municipality of the Balearic Islands in western Ibiza. The village is west of the capital Eivissa and is located on the PM803 highway between Eivissa town and Sant Antoni de Portmany. A watchtower or watch tower is a type of fortification used in many parts of the world. It differs from a regular tower in that its primary use is military and from a turret in that it is usually a freestanding structure. Its main purpose is to provide a high, safe place from which a sentinel or guard may observe the surrounding area. The Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle is a French jet airliner produced by Sud Aviation. It was developed by SNCASE in the early 1950s and made its maiden flight on 27 May 1955. It included some de Havilland designs and components developed for the de Havilland Comet. SNCASE merged into the larger Sud Aviation conglomerate before the aircraft entered revenue service on 26 April 1959 with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS); 282 were built until production ended in 1972. It was ordered by airlines on every continent and operated until its retirement in 2005.
