CapMetro Rail
CapMetro Rail is a hybrid rail (light rail with some features similar to commuter rail) system that serves the Greater Austin area in Texas and is owned by CapMetro, Austin's primary public transportation provider. The Red Line is CapMetro's first and currently only rail line, and connects Downtown Austin with Austin, Texas, Austin's northwestern suburbs. The line operates on of existing freight rail transport, freight tracks, and serves 10 stations. After a series of delays, CapMetro Rail was inaugurated in March 2010. CapMetro added Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening regularly scheduled service on March 23, 2012. In , the line had a ridership of , or about per weekday as of . Lakeline Station
Lakeline is a Capital MetroRail commuter rail station in Austin, Texas, located at the corner of Lakeline Boulevard and Lyndhurst Streets. It also is co-located with the Lakeline Park and Ride (formerly Northwest Park and Ride) and serves Lakeline Mall which is a mile away. Lakeline is one of two stations located within Williamson County, Texas, Williamson County alongside Leander (Capital MetroRail station), Leander as opposed to Travis County, Texas, Travis County which contains the other seven locations. Lakeline serves as the midday and Saturday terminus for the MetroRail Red Line, as Leander is only in service during rush hour. Green Line (CapMetro)
The Green Line is a proposed commuter rail line for connecting the Northeast Austin area of Colony Park with the downtown Austin, Texas area in the United States. It is still in the planning stages as a part of CapMetro's Project Connect. In September 2008, CapMetro evaluated the need for rail service to alleviate pressure from congestion downtown to Colony Park, with a potential extension to Elgin, Texas, Elgin. To fix this problem, CapMetro initiated planning for a new rail line. The Green Line would operate the same as the Red Line, as it would run on an existing freight rail - the Austin Western Railroad - with adjustments made to them to allow for passenger rail service. In December 2008, a presentation, and then a follow-up, were given to the CAMPO Transit Work Group about the Green Line.
