The canton of Saint-Affrique is an administrative division of the Aveyron department, southern France. Its borders were not modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Saint-Affrique. The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Aveyron
Aveyron (; oc, Avairon; ) is a department in the region of Occitania, Southern France. It was named after the river Aveyron. Its inhabitants are known as ''Aveyronnais'' (masculine) or ''Aveyronnaises'' (feminine) in French. The inhabitants of Aveyron's prefecture, Rodez, are called ''Ruthénois'', based upon the first Celtic settlers in the area, the Ruteni. With an area of and a population of 279,595, Aveyron is a largely rural department with a population density of 32 per square kilometer (83/sq mi). Saint-Affrique
Saint-Affrique (; Languedocien: ''Sant Africa'') is a commune in the Aveyron department in Southern France. History Saint-Affrique grew in the 6th century around the tomb of St. Africain, bishop of Comminges. In the 12th century a fortress was built on the neighboring rock of Caylus. The possession of Saint-Affrique was vigorously contested during the French Wars of Religion. It was eventually occupied by the Huguenots until 1629, when it was seized and dismantled by a royal army. Geography The Sorgues, a tributary of the Dourdou de Camarès, flows through the commune and crosses the town. The Dourdou de Camarès flows northwestward through the western part of the commune and forms part of its northwestern border. La Bastide-Pradines
La Bastide-Pradines (; oc, La Bastida de Pradinas or ''La Bastida Pradinas'') is a commune in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region of Southern France. As of 2020, it had a population of 113. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Bastidois'' (masculine) or ''Bastidoises'' (feminine) in French. Geography La Bastide-Pradines is located some 50 km south-east of Rodez and 10 km north-east of Saint-Affrique in the heart of the ''Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses''. Roquefort-sur-Soulzon
Roquefort-sur-Soulzon (; oc, Ròcafòrt, ) is a commune in the Aveyron department, in the region of Occitania, southern France. Roquefort is located on the Causse du Larzac and is famous for its ewe derived products including milk, wool and meat. Much of the activity in the commune centres on the production and distribution of Roquefort cheese. To be legally termed Roquefort cheese, it must follow the rules laid down by the federal standards of the ''Appelation d’Origine''. According to archaeologists, the cheese making process in the specific caves dates back to 900 C.E. A visitor centre illustrates the process of making Roquefort cheese and offers guests a chance to sample and purchase the product.
