Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom K-1
The women's K-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 25 and 27 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 27 canoeists from 27 nations competed. Background This was the ninth appearance of the event, having previously appeared in every Summer Olympics with slalom canoeing: 1972 and 1992 to 2016. Reigning Olympic champion Maialen Chourraut of Spain made her fourth Olympic appearance (she also took bronze in 2012), attempting to defend her title. Reigning World Champion Eva Terčelj of Slovenia also competed as a medal hopeful. She placed 13th in 2012. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter only 1 qualified canoeist in the women's slalom K-1 event. Klaudia Zwolińska (born 18 December 1998) is a Polish slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2013. Zwolińska won two bronze medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, one in the K1 event (2023) and one in the K1 team event (2022). Eliška Mintálová (born 23 March 1999) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2016. Evy Leibfarth (born January 26, 2004) is an American slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2019. Career In 2019, Leibfarth won the gold medal in the women's K1 event and the silver medal in the women's extreme K1 event at the Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. In the same year, Leibfarth also competed at the 2019 World Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships held in Kraków, Poland, winning the gold medal in the junior extreme K1 event and the bronze medal in the junior K1 event.
