Canna, Western Australia
Canna is a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It is located between the towns of Morawa and Mullewa on the Mullewa-Wubin Road. At the 2006 census, Canna had a population of 81. Originating as a railway siding on the Wongan Hills to Mullewa railway line the public works department planned to locate a station named ''Pindawa'' on the present site. The name was regarded as unsuitable due to its similarity to the existing town of Pindar so in 1914 it was decided to use Canna instead. The townsite was gazetted in 1928. Cannae
Cannae (now Canne della Battaglia, ) is an ancient village of the Apulia region of south east Italy. It is a ''frazione'' (civil parish) of the ''comune'' (municipality) of Barletta. Cannae was formerly a bishopric, and is presently (2022) a Latin Catholic titular see. Geography The commune of Cannae is situated near the river Aufidus (the modern Ofanto), on a hill on the right (i.e., south) bank, southwest of its mouth, and 9 km southwest of Barletta. History It is primarily known for the Battle of Cannae, in which the numerically superior Roman army suffered a disastrous defeat by Hannibal in 216 BC (see Punic Wars). There is a considerable controversy as to whether the battle took place on the right or the left bank of the river. In later times the place became a ''municipium'', and the remains of an unimportant Roman town still exist upon the hill known as ''Monte di Canne''. In the Middle Ages, probably after the destruction of Canosa di Puglia in the 9th centur ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

It is linked to the neighbouring island of Sanday, Inner Hebrides, Sanday by a road and sandbanks at low tide. The island is long and wide. The isolated skerry, skerries of Hyskeir and Humla lie south-west of the island. Canna House, one of two big houses on the island (the other being Tighard), contains John Campbell's important archives of Gaelic materials that were donated with the islands to the nation. Since then the NTS has engaged in new initiatives to attract new residents and visitors to Canna. Saint Canna
Saint Canna was a sixth-century mother of saints and later a nun in south Wales. According to the writings of the unreliable Iolo Morganwg, Canna was a daughter of the Breton King Tudur Mawr, and widely held to be related to Saint Illtud. She married her cousin Sadwrn, and in his old age, Sadwyn accompanied Saint Cadfan to Britain where he founded two churches, one in Anglesey and one in Carmarthenshire. Canna accompanied her husband, with their son Crallo. After the death of Sadwrn, she remarried and became the mother of Saint Elian Geimiad. Canna founded a church in West Wales and then became a nun. She reportedly founded a church in Llangan in the Vale of Glamorgan, where there is a church dedicated to her, built on the site of at least one previous. Near the west wall of St. Canna's Church is a 9th-10th century disc-headed cross slab, high, depicting the Crucifixion. There was a well below the old church called Ffynnon Ganna, , whose water was believed to have curative ...
