Canley Vale, New South Wales
Canley Vale is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Canley Vale is located 30 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Fairfield and is part of the South Western Sydney region. History Aboriginal people from the Cabragal clan, a sub-group of the Darug nation, have lived in the Fairfield area for over 30,000 years. Canley Vale was once a woodland area and was originally part of the Male Orphan School Estate. In the 1800s, Sir Henry Parkes (1815–96) settled in the district in a mansion which he built near the railway line between Fairfield and Cabramatta. He named it Canley Grange after his birthplace of Canley, in Coventry England. He named the railway station Canley Moat House and had his own private landing beside the line. Main Southern Railway Line
The Main Southern Railway (or Great Southern Railway) is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services. Canley Vale railway station is located on the Main South line, serving the Sydney suburb of Canley Vale. It is served by Sydney Trains' T2 Leppington & Inner West Line and T5 Cumberland line services. History Canley Vale station opened in April 1878. Canley Vale station is included in Transport for NSW's Transport Access Program which will see lifts built onto the current footbridge, toilets, an upgraded station entrance and improvements to CCTV, wayfinding and lighting. Canley
Canley is a suburban neighbourhood located in south-west Coventry, England. Canley became part of Coventry as a result of successive encroachment of the latter's boundaries between 1928 and 1932, having historically been part of the Stoneleigh parish. Electorally, it is largely in Westwood ward and partially within the Wainbody and Earlsdon wards. The area is home to many students attending the nearby University of Warwick. There was a level crossing adjacent to Canley railway station until 2003, when the road was closed and a footbridge was built over the railway. Henry Parkes
Sir Henry Parkes, (27 May 1815 – 27 April 1896) was a colonial Australian politician and the longest-serving non-consecutive Premier of New South Wales, premier of the Colony of New South Wales, the present-day state of New South Wales in the Commonwealth of Australia.
