Canemorto

The ancient city of Orvinium was destroyed before the year 1000. The successor town was named “Canemortem”, or later "Canemorto", till it was changed to Orvinio in 1863. Santa Maria Dei Raccomandati, Orvinio
Santa Maria dei Raccomandati is a 17th-century Roman Catholic church and former Franciscan convent and hostel outside of the town of Orvinio, in the province of Rieti, region of Lazio, Italy. The church was erected just outside the town walls in 1582. A 1638 document calls this the ''Convent of Canemorto'', referring to the old name of Orvinio. In 1653, under Pope Innocent X, the convent was suppressed and only reopened when the commune provided the monks with support. The adjacent cloister has a view of the countryside. The facade was rebuilt in a neoclassical style. The interior has a single nave with lateral altars. The Province of Rieti ( it, Provincia di Rieti) is a province in the Lazio region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Rieti. Established in 1927, it has an area of with a total population of 157,887 people as of 2017. There are 73 ''comuni'' in the province. Geography A large part of its territory corresponds to the historical-geographical region of Sabina. Rieti is located in the north-east Lazio. It is bordered to the west, along the river Tiber by the Province of Viterbo and to the south-west by the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. Rieti (; lat, Reate, Sabino: ) is a town and ''comune'' in Lazio, central Italy, with a population of 47,700. It is the administrative seat of the province of Rieti and see of the diocese of Rieti, as well as the modern capital of the Sabina region. The town centre stands on a small hilltop, commanding from the southern edge the wide Rieti valley, at the bottom of the Sabine hills and of monti Reatini, including mount Terminillo. Santa Maria del Piano is a former Roman Catholic church and Benedictine abbey located outside of the town of Orvinio, in the province of Rieti, region of Lazio, Italy. Only ruined elements of the Romanesque facade and bell-tower remain. It is sometimes called ''Santa Maria di Pozzaglia''. Construction here putatively started in the 9th-century, linked to a victory by the army of Charlemagne against a marauding Saracen army in the plain nearby.
