2022 South Australian State Election
The 2022 South Australian state election was held on 19 March 2022 to elect members to the 55th Parliament of South Australia. All 47 seats in the House of Assembly (the lower house, whose members were elected at the 2018 election), and half the seats in the Legislative Council (the upper house, last filled at the 2014 election) were up for re-election. The one-term incumbent minority Liberal government, led by Premier Steven Marshall, was defeated by the opposition Labor Party, led by Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas, in a landslide. Marshall conceded to Malinauskas about three hours after the polls closed. It is the first time since 1982, and only the fourth time since 1933, that a sitting government in South Australia has been defeated after a single term. Electoral District Of Adelaide
Adelaide is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. The 22.8 km² state seat of Adelaide currently consists of the Adelaide city centre including North Adelaide and suburbs to the inner north and inner north east: Collinswood, Fitzroy, Gilberton, Medindie, Medindie Gardens, Ovingham, Thorngate, Walkerville, most of Prospect, and part of Nailsworth. The federal division of Adelaide covers the state seat of Adelaide and additional suburbs in each direction. Vickie Chapman
Vickie Ann Chapman is a former Australian politician, representing the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Bragg for the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia between the 2002 election and May 2022. Chapman served as the Deputy Premier of South Australia and Attorney-General between 19 March 2018 and 22 November 2021 in the Marshall government. She was the first woman to hold either post. Chapman has previously served as deputy leader of the Liberal Party from 2006 to 2009, and became deputy leader again in 2013. In that capacity, she served as Deputy Leader of the Opposition between 30 March 2006 and 4 July 2009, and again between 4 February 2013 and 19 March 2018. Electoral District Of Bragg
Bragg is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. The seat is named after the eminent physicists Bragg – William Henry and his son, William Lawrence. The electorate is largely suburban and encompasses a significant portion of the City of Burnside, stretching from the east parklands of Adelaide into the Adelaide Hills. After the redistribution following the 2006 election, the boundary moved eastwards to include suburbs that had formerly been in the electorate of Heysen and now borders Kavel. David Speirs
David James Speirs (born December 15, 1984) is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal member of the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2014 state election and leader of the Liberal Party since 19 April 2022. He represented Bright until 2018 and then Black following a redistribution of electoral boundaries. Speirs served as the Minister for Environment and Water in the Marshall Ministry between March 2018 and March 2022. Background and early career Speirs was born in Galloway, Scotland, where he was schooled at Kirkcolm Primary School and Stranraer Academy. Electoral District Of Black
Black is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was created by the redistribution conducted in 2016, and was contested for the first time at the 2018 state election. Black is named after Dorrit Black (Dorothea Foster Black, 1891–1951), a South Australian modern artist, best known for linocuts, oil and watercolour paintings. Black lies south-west of the Adelaide city centre and includes the suburbs of Darlington, Hallett Cove, Kingston Park, Marino, O'Halloran Hill, Seacliff, Seacliff Park, Seacombe Heights, Seaview Downs, Sheidow Park and Trott Park. At its creation, Black was projected to be notionally held by the Liberal Party with a swing of 2.6% required to lose it. The Family First Party is an Australian political party based in South Australia, founded on 28 July 2021 by former state Labor ministers Jack Snelling and Tom Kenyon. As of March 2022, Lyle Shelton is the party's National Director. History The Family First Party previously existed as a political party in Australia, founded in 2002 by Andrew Evans, who won a seat in the South Australian Legislative Council at the state election that year. Jayne Stinson
Jayne Marion Stinson is an Australian politician. She has been a Labor member of the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2018 state election, representing Badcoe in the inner south-western suburbs of Adelaide. Stinson worked as a broadcast journalist for ABC News, Network Ten, Channel Seven and media agencies in Cambodia, India and Rwanda before her election. Stinson has also worked for the Law Society of South Australia and as an adviser to the Rudd and Gillard Labor governments. Stinson was appointed to the front bench upon her election in 2018, taking up the portfolios of Child Protection and Arts. She was later promoted to the Planning and Development and Multicultural Affairs portfolios, while retaining Arts. She resigned from her portfolios in 2021 for personal reasons.
