Canadian Pacing Derby
The Canadian Pacing Derby is a race for three-year-old Standardbred Free For All pacers run at a distance of one mile at Mohawk Racetrack in Campbellville, Ontario. Historical race events The Canadian Pacing Derby was first run on August 12, 1936 at Fountain Park Racetrack in New Hamburg, Ontario operated by the New Hamburg Turf Club. For 1949 only, the race was renamed the Canadian Pacing And Trotting Derby with trotting horses allowed to compete against pacers. The lone trotter entered finished far back. The Derby was suspended after the 1957 running and was not revived until 1965 when it was raced as a 1-3/16 mile event at Greenwood Raceway in Toronto. Campbellville, Ontario
Campbellville is a compact rural community in the geographic township of Nassagaweya in the Town of Milton, Regional Municipality of Halton, Ontario, Canada. It is on the Niagara Escarpment and is a tourist destination for residents of the Greater Toronto Area. History Campbellville is named for John Campbell, who settled there in 1832. A saw mill was later built. A tavern was opened in 1847 by Mr. Priest. A hotel was also located in the early settlement, which burned down around 1930. The first store and post office were noted in 1849, located in William Campbell's home and operated by Malcolm Campbell. Campbelleville was incorporated as a police village in 1914. Campbellville was originally part of Nassagaweya Township, and it was noted in 1932 that Campbellville "was, as it is now, the most important centre" in the township. Michel "Mike" Lachance (born December 16, 1950 in St. Augustin, Quebec) is a retired harness racing driver. Widely recognized as among the best drivers of all time, his outstanding career began in 1967 in Quebec City. At retirement, he had won 10,253 races and purses totalling $187,710,149. He has been inducted into both the United States and Canadian Harness Racing Halls of Fame. Brittany Farms
The Adios Pace is a horse race for three-year-old Standardbred colts and geldings run annually since 1967 at a distance of one mile at Meadows Racetrack in North Strabane Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Historical race events The 1972 race final was the only time the Adios Pace ended in a dead heat. In 1997 the race was renamed the Delvin Miller Adios Pace to honor the legendary Hall of Fame driver/trainer Delvin Miller. 1997 also saw the only winner disqualification in the race's history when Dream Away finished first by five lengths but was disqualified for interference. In 1985, Nihilator won a division of the Adios Pace but was withdrawn from the final which would have been a match race against Marauder. To win, Marauder merely jogged around the track alone. Ronald Pierce Ely (born June 21, 1938) is an American actor and novelist born in Hereford, Texas, and raised in Amarillo. Ely is best known for having portrayed Tarzan in the 1966–1968 NBC series ''Tarzan'' and for playing the lead role in the film '' Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze'' (1975). He hosted the ''Miss America'' pageant telecast in 1980 and 1981. Actor Ely won the role of Tarzan in 1966 after playing supporting roles in films such as '' South Pacific'' (1958), as an airplane navigator, ''The Fiend Who Walked the West'' (1958) and ''The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker'' (1959). Yannick Gingras (born August 4, 1979, in Sorel, Quebec, Canada) is a Champion driver of Standardbred horses in the sport of harness racing. Career awards and records Gingras drove in his native Canada until 2001 when he moved to Yonkers Raceway in New York where he enjoyed immediate success, winning that fall's driving title.
