Canada–Central American Four Free Trade Agreement
The Canada–Central American Four Free Trade Agreement was a proposed free trade agreement between Canada and the Central American states of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua (collectively referred to as the Central American Four or CA4). Twelve rounds of negotiations were undertaken between 2001 and 2010, after which no agreement had been reached. Canada and Honduras instead decided to pursue Canada–Honduras Free Trade Agreement, a bilateral agreement between themselves, and those negotiations concluded successfully in August 2011. The United States negotiated and ratified a similar treaty with these countries, called the Dominican Republic–Central America Free Trade Agreement, Central American Free Trade Agreement. There are two types of trade agreements: bilateral and multilateral. Canada–El Salvador Relations
Canada–El Salvador relations are the diplomatic relations between the Canada and the Republic of El Salvador. Both nations are members of the Organization of American States and the United Nations. History Diplomatic relations between Canada and El Salvador were established on 29 December 1961. El Salvador opened its embassy in Ottawa in 1973. Initially, Canada accredited an ambassador to El Salvador based in Costa Rica and then from Guatemala. The Canada–Honduras Free Trade Agreement is a free trade agreement between Canada and Honduras which entered into force on 1 October 2014. From 2000-2010, Canada was in multilateral negotiations with Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua (collectively the Central American Four or CA4) on a proposed Canada–Central American Four Free Trade Agreement.
