Canacona () is a city and a municipal council in the district of South Goa, Goa state, India. Canacona taluka includes Patnem, Chaudi, Poinguinim, Loliem-Polem, Agonda, and Gaumdongre. Chaudi is the headquarters and the most developed town in this taluka. The famous Palolem Beach is located in Canacona. Geography Canacona is located at . Loliem-Polem
Loliem-Polem is a village located in the southernmost tip of the Canacona taluk, in Goa, India, bordering Karwar taluka of Karnataka state. Location Loliem-Polem is surrounded by Karwar Taluk towards south, Quepem Taluk towards north, Salcete Taluk towards north. History Loliem, earlier under the Kadamba kings of Banavasi, was actually known as Loha-halli (a Kannada word) as the village had metallurgical artisans who would manufacture idols of Hindu gods and goddesses by using iron and aluminium according to the Canara Gazetteer. Later, it became a Portuguese colony and the name was changed to Loliem. Loliem-Polem had a Portuguese immigration check-post to monitor all arrivals-departures by road route staffed by European officers till 1961, when Goa was incorporated into the Indian Union. Loliem Railway Station
Loliem railway station (Station code: LOL) a railway station in Goa, under the jurisdiction of Konkan Railway. Administration It lies is in Loliem-Polem village in the sub-district of Canacona and is under Karwar railway division of Konkan Railway zone, a subsidiary zone of Indian Railways. History The establishment of this station was announced in September 2011, nearly a decade-and-half after the railway was commissioned in 1997. Palolem
Palolem Beach is situated in Canacona in southern Goa, India. The beach attracts many international tourists, mainly during the winter season between November and March. It is considered to be one of the region's most beautiful beaches. Overview Palolem Beach is largely unspoiled and is inhabited by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore or in the main village itself. It is about one mile (approximately 1.61 km) long and is crescent-shaped; one can view the entire beach from either end. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea.
