Campeonato Potiguar (lower Levels)
The Campeonato Potiguar is the football league of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Format First Division First stage: standard round-robin, in which all teams play each other once. Second stage: home-and-away playoffs between the top 8 teams in the first stage. The winner of this stage is crowned the champion. The team last placed in the first stage is relegated to the second division. As in any other Brazilian soccer championship, the format can change every year. Associação Cultural e Desportiva Potiguar, commonly known as Potiguar or as Potiguar de Mossoró, are a Brazilian football team from Mossoró. They won the Campeonato Potiguar once and competed in the Série A twice. Potiguar is currently ranked fourth among Rio Grande do Norte teams in CBF's national club ranking at 157th place overall. They are the best placed team in the state from outside of Greater Natal. History They were founded on February 11, 1945, as Esporte Clube Potuguar by a group of sportsmen. Associação Sportiva Sociedade Unida, commonly known as ASSU, is a Brazilian football club from Assu, Rio Grande do Norte state. They won the Campeonato Potiguar once and competed in the Copa do Brasil once. Their colors are green and white. ASSU is currently ranked sixth among Rio Grande do Norte teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 205th place overall. History The club was founded on January 10, 2002. Santa Cruz Futebol Clube, usually known as Santa Cruz or Santa Cruz de Natal, is a Brazilian football club from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Santa Cruz is currently ranked fifth among Rio Grande do Norte teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 163rd place overall. History Originally founded in 1934 as Santa Cruz Esporte e Cultura, the club won one Campeonato Potiguar in 1943 before ceasing activities in the early 1960s.
