Rustburg, Virginia
Rustburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Campbell County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,431 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The public high school in Rustburg is Rustburg High School. The public primary and elementary schools are Rustburg Middle School, Rustburg Elementary School, Yellow Branch Elementary School, Fray Educational Center, and Campbell County Technical Center. History Rustburg was named for Jeremiah Rust, who donated of his land for the village in 1784. The Campbell County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. Campbell County is a United States county situated in the south central part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in the Piedmont region of Virginia, Campbell borders the Blue Ridge Mountains. The county seat is Rustburg. Grounded on a tobacco cash crop economy, Campbell County was created in 1782 from part of Bedford County. The county was named in honor of General William Campbell, hero of the American Revolutionary War. Campbell County is part of the Lynchburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the 2020 census, the county population was 55,696. The number of residents has grown steadily in every census after 1930, and the total population has more than doubled since that time. Altavista High School
Altavista High School is a public high school in Altavista, Virginia, United States. Altavista High School and Middle School are under the same roof and, thus, go by the name Altavista Combined School (Grades 6–12). The current enrollment is estimated to be 700 students (6–12). Brookville High School (Virginia)
Brookville High School is a high school in Campbell County, Virginia, United States. The school was founded in 1926 with the first elementary classes beginning in November. The first high school classes began in 1927 with 2 teachers, and the first graduating class was 1930, with three graduates. The last graduating high school class from the original school was in 1966. The old building was eventually torn down in March, 1978 due to annexation. The current building was completed in 1969 and is now located on Laxton Road, on what is now the boundary between Campbell County and the city of Lynchburg. The Brookville attendance area is served by four schools: Tomahawk Elementary, Leesville Road Elementary, Brookville Middle, and Brookville High. Rustburg High School is a public school for grades nine through twelve, in Rustburg, Virginia. It is one of four high schools that are part of the Campbell County Public Schools, along with Altavista High School, Brookville High School, and William Campbell High School. History Originally Campbell County High School, the school was Campbell County, Virginia's first public high school, opening in the early 1900s. Until the late 1970s, the school was in the oldest part of the building that is now part of an expanded Rustburg Middle School. Currently, Rustburg High School is at 1671 Village Highway in Rustburg, where it has been since the move in the late 1970s. Its original building has been expanded multiple times since its opening, the largest of those expansions being the addition of a new science wing that opened in 1997.
