Camilo Vives
Camilo Vives (c. 1942 – March 14, 2013) was a Cuban film producer. He produced more than forty Cuban films during his career, including '' Lucía'', released in 1968, and ''Fresa y Chocolate'' (''Strawberry and Chocolate'') in 1994. Vives joined the Instituto Cubano del Arte y la Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), the state-controlled film arm of the Cuban government, which had been established in 1959 following the Cuban Revolution. He became head of the ICAIC's production studios during the 1970s. In 2001, he was promoted to head of the International Production division of the ICAIC. Vives produced films by Cuban and Spanish film directors. His credits with Cuban directors included '' Lucía'', '' Miel para Oshun'' and ''Barrio Cuba'' for director Humberto Solás; and ''Life is to Whistle'' in 1998 and ''Suite Habana'' in 2003 for director '' Fernando Pérez''. Suite Habana
''Suite Habana'' is a 2003 Cuban documentary directed by Fernando Pérez. The documentary was filmed with fictional cinema techniques depicting a day in a life of thirteen real people, from a ten-year-old child with Down syndrome to a 79-year-old lady who sells peanuts in the street. The film has no dialogue, using sound and image to evoke emotional effect. Several stories are juxtaposed to convey the plot points, an unusual approach in Cuban cinema, where spoken words are often used extensively. Critical reception After the film's premiere in Cuba, national critics ranked it as one of the best Cuban films in decades. The film gathered several awards at international film festivals. ''Havana Blues'' (''Habana Blues'') is a 2005 Spanish and Cuban film by Benito Zambrano which tells the story of two young musicians in Cuba. The film revolves around their music and contains criticism of problems in Cuba such as poverty and electricity outages. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. The two musicians, Ruy and Tito ( Yoel and San Martín), whose music is a mix of traditional Cuban music and more modern music such as rap, get a chance at an international breakthrough through a Spanish record company, but they would have to change their Cuba-themed lyrics to cater to an international audience. Pavel Giroud
Pavel Giroud (born 1973) is a Cuban film director based in Madrid, Spain. Career Giroud studied design and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Diseño (High Institute of Design) in 1994. He worked for a short period of time as a designer and art director in films and theatre plays. He then began to paint, working with the basic techniques and incorporating video into his work, before directing his first short films, featuring his friends rather than professional actors. From then, Giroud decided to focus his career on cinema. Giroud filmed only self-written scripts, until he read the script for the movie ''The Silly Age, La Edad de la peseta'', written by young screenwriter Arturo Infante. Synopsis The film tells the story of a pious Havana plantation owner in the 1790s, during Cuba's Spanish colonial period. The plantation owner decides to recreate the Biblical Last Supper using twelve of the slaves working in his sugarcane fields, hoping to thus teach the slaves about Christianity. In a misguided attempt to enlighten his African-originating slaves, a Count invites twelve of them to a dinner on Maundy Thursday in a re-enactment of the Last Supper with himself as Christ.
