Camfield Station
Camfield Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is situated about south east of Timber Creek and west of Daly Waters. The Buntine Highway cuts through the property for a distance of . Camfield currently occupies an area of and is owned by the Australian Agricultural Company. The property is able to carry a herd of 32,000 head of cattle and is currently running Brahman cattle. Camfield is broken into 22 paddocks, seven holding paddocks and three sets of steel yards. About half of the property lies within of permanent water with another 37 watering points available for stock. The property was once part of Victoria River Downs Station but was resumed as part of a returned servicemen scheme in 1952 and taken up by the Vandeleur family who won the leasehold in a ballot. A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. They do not give all the rights that attach to freehold land: there are usually conditions which include a time period and the type of activity permitted. Gurindji Strike
The Wave Hill walk-off, also known as the Gurindji strike, was a walk-off and strike by 200 Gurindji stockmen, house servants and their families, starting on 23 August 1966 and lasting for seven years. It took place at Wave Hill, a cattle station in Kalkarindji (formerly known as Wave Hill), Northern Territory, Australia, and was led by Gurindji man Vincent Lingiari. Initially interpreted as purely a strike against working and living conditions, it became apparent that these were not the only or main reasons.
