Broadmeadow Racecourse is an Australian racecourse for horse racing in the Newcastle suburb of Broadmeadow. It was opened on 27 April 1907 by the Newcastle Jockey Club on land acquired from the Australian Agricultural Company. It replaced a racecourse at Hamilton. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Epsom Handicap
The Epsom Handicap is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses three years old and older, under handicap conditions over a distance of 1,600 metres at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia in early October. Prize money is A$1,500,000. History In 1897 Jim McHugh weighing and aged 11 years and 4 months was having his second race ride ever, on Robin Hood in the Epsom Handicap and won the race. Jockey, Donald Nicholson won the race in succession five times from 1880 to 1884 and came fifth in 1885. He was killed a few weeks later when his mount fell in the 1885 Caulfield Cup. It is one of the major races of the ATC Spring Carnival. Hooked (foaled 30 October 2010) is an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. On 25 October 2014, he won the Crystal Mile. Background Hooked is a 4 year old bay stallion from Australia, owned by Sean Buckley and trained by John P Thompson, based at Randwick. He is sired by the stallion Casino Prince out of the dam Absolute Lure. Luskin Star
Luskin Star (1974-2002) was a Thoroughbred racehorse and winner of the Australian two-year-old Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Breeding The colt by Kaoru Star out of Promising (NZ) was consigned to the 1976 Sydney Easter Yearling Sales as Lot 734, but was passed in for $6,500 with a reserve of $8,000. He was later purchased by Newcastle trainer Max Lees for stable clients Mr and Mrs John Balcomb, Don Ninnes and Barry Barnett. His sire Kaoru Star was a son of Star Kingdom and grandson of Hyperion.
