Camden Park, New South Wales
Camden Park is just outside the metropolitan area of Sydney, Australia. It was named after John Macarthur's estate '' Camden Park''. While most of the suburb is farmland in Wollondilly Shire, the northern part of Camden Park has recently undergone suburban development as an extension of the suburb of Camden South. Camden South is in the Camden Council area and is part of Greater Sydney. The new development is named Bridgewater Estate and features a comprehensive Development Control Plan to guide the style outcomes of the locality. Population In the 2016 Census, there were 2,238 people in Camden Park. 86.3% of people were born in Australia and 92.9% of people spoke only English at home. The most common responses for religion were Catholic 38.9%, Anglican 27.6% and No Religion 16.9%. Camden is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales in Sydney's south-west. It is currently represented by Peter Sidgreaves of the Liberal Party. Spring Farm is a suburb of the Macarthur Region of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia in Camden Council. It is on the east side of the Nepean River. Until recently, it was mainly farmland with a winery, an electricity substation and the Spring Farm Advanced Resource Recovery Facility, but it is currently in the process of suburban redevelopment. Menangle is a village in the Macarthur region of New South Wales, Australia. Location Menangle is part of the Wollondilly Shire. At the , Menangle had a population of 875 people. At the , Menangle's population had risen to 1,150. History The town's name is derived from an Indigenous Australian word for 'a place of swamps and lagoons'. In 1806, Walter Davidson named his land grant in this district "Manangle". This property was later incorporated into the larger Macarthur Estate and the village grew to service the operations of Camden Park Estate. The opening of the railway in 1863 enabled overnight milk deliveries to the Sydney Market. John Macarthur (wool Pioneer)
John Macarthur (1767 – 11 April 1834) was a British Army officer, racketeer, entrepreneur, grazier, usurper, politician, and highly influential figure in the early British colonisation of New South Wales. Macarthur is recognised as the pioneer of the Australian Merino wool industry. He was instrumental in agitating for, and organising, a rebellion against the colonial government in what is often described as the Rum Rebellion. Early life John Macarthur was born at Stoke Damerel near Plymouth, England in 1767. His exact date of birth is unknown, but his baptism was registered on 3 September 1767. The Camden Park Estate incorporating the Belgenny Farm is a heritage-listed large working historical farm located at Elizabeth Macarthur Avenue, in the south-western Sydney suburb of Camden South in the Camden Council local government area of New South Wales, Australia.
