Callide Power Station
Callide Power Station is an electricity generator at Mount Murchison, Queensland, Mount Murchison, Shire of Banana, Queensland, Australia. It is coal powered with eight steam turbines with a combined Electricity generation, generation capacity of 1,720 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Callide A was commissioned in 1965, refurbished in 1998 and decommissioned in 2015/16. As of 2018, generation capacity was 1510 MW. The coal for Callide comes from the nearby Callide Coalfields and water from the Lake Awoonga, Awoonga dam and Stag Creek Pipeline. An explosion and fire at the Callide C power plant in late May 2021 caused a significant power outage that affected over 375,000 premises and raised electricity prices for weeks afterwards. Mount Murchison, Queensland
Mount Murchison is a rural locality in the Shire of Banana, Queensland, Australia. Geography Callide Power Station is in the south-east of the locality at 1092 Biloela Callide Road (). History Mount Murchison State School opened on 24 April 1935. The new school was built to cater for up to 24 students with a single 18x18 foot classroom with 8 foot verandas front and rear; it was a timber building with a galvanised iron roof and was built on the property of Mr C. G. Skinner. The teacher was Reg Davidson. Callide Power Station commenced operation in 1965. It was officially opened by Queensland Premier Frank Nicklin on 21 August 1965. Stanwell Power Station is a coal-fired power generation station located in Stanwell, south-west of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. At the time of construction, it was one of the largest industrial developments undertaken in Queensland. With a capacity to generate 1,445 megawatts (MW), Stanwell Power Station supplies electricity for distribution to customers via the state's high voltage electricity grid. Stanwell was commissioned in 1992 and became fully operational in 1996. It is located on 4,000 acres (1,600 hectares) of land.
