Caliente Range
The Caliente Range is a west-east trending zone of uplift mountains in the California Coast Ranges, in central California. The highest peak of the range is Caliente Mountain at in elevation, located in southeastern San Luis Obispo County. Geology The range is an anticlinal structure with a sharp southern boundary defined by the Morales Thrust Fault, along which runs the Cuyama River. The Cuyama Valley separates the Caliente Range from the Sierra Madre Mountains in neighboring Santa Barbara County to the south. To the northeast, the range is bounded by the Carrizo Plain. To the northwest, the range is abutted by the La Panza and Santa Lucia Ranges, two northwest-southeast trending units of the Pacific Coast Ranges. The rocks of the Caliente range are dominated by marine and terrestrial sedimentary deposits laid down over the last 30 million years. USS ''Caliente'' (AO-53) was a built during World War II for the U.S. Navy. During her career in the Pacific Ocean, ''Caliente'' participated in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. She was highly decorated for fulfilling her dangerous mission of carrying fuel into battle areas. She received ten battle stars for World War II, four for the Korean War and eight campaign stars for the Vietnam War. Construction and commissioning The auxiliary oiler was built by Bethlehem Sparrows Point Shipyard as a type T3-S2-A1 fast petroleum carrier (Maritime Commission contract MC hull 719), and was laid down at Sparrows Point, Maryland, on 2 January 1943. The Miami Caliente was a women's American football team in the Lingerie Football League based in the Miami area. They were part of the Lingerie Bowl's expansion into a full-fledged league in 2009 with home games at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Head coach Bob Hewko was a quarterback for the University of Florida and a back-up quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On November 13, 2009, Taira Turley and Tina Caccavale were ejected from a game for fighting when a multiple-player brawl, instigated by Morgan McGrath, erupted near the end of the game against the New York Majesty. Krystal Gray of the Majesty was also ejected and suspended for one game. The Kawaiisu (pronounced: ″ka-wai-ah-soo″) are a Native Californian ethnic group in the United States who live in the Tehachapi Valley and to the north across the Tehachapi Pass in the southern Sierra Nevada, toward Lake Isabella and Walker Pass.
