Calga
Calga is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located north of Sydney. It is part of the local government area. It is home to a major interchange on the Pacific Motorway, Old Pacific Highway, and the Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park. History Calga lies within the traditional lands of both the native Darkinjung and Kuringgai peoples and is an Aboriginal word meaning "the mouth". The locality's main feature is the state heritage-registered Aboriginal women's site, whose highlight includes the site of a sandstone amphitheatre. Population In the 2016 Census, there were 142 people in Calga. 78.0% of people were born in Australia and 85.5% of people spoke only English at home. Calga Aboriginal Cultural Landscape is a heritage-listed site at Peats Ridge Road, Calga, Central Coast Council, New South Wales, Australia. It is also known as Calga Aboriginal Women's Site and Calga Aboriginal Sites. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 1 October 2019. History The Peats Ridge Songline The Calga Aboriginal Cultural Landscape (Calga ACL) is located along the primary ridgeline of Peats Ridge which has been identified as a traditional Aboriginal walking route between the Hawkesbury and the Hunter rivers. Aboriginal people commonly followed ridgelines to travel through rough country. The route would be used to visit neighbours for trade, to arrange marriage, participate in ceremony or other cultural events. Pacific Motorway (Sydney–Newcastle)
The Pacific Motorway, signposted M1, is a stretch of motorway linking Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle and Hunter regions of New South Wales. It is also known by its former names F3 Freeway, Sydney–Newcastle Freeway, and Sydney–Newcastle Expressway. It is part of the AusLink road corridor between Sydney and Brisbane. The name "F3 Freeway" reflects its former route allocation, but is commonly used by both the public and the government to refer to the roadway long after the route allocation itself was no longer in use. Route At its southern end, the freeway starts at Pennant Hills Road, Wahroonga with the Northern intersection of Northconnex, near its junction with the Pacific Highway (Pearces Corner) in Sydney's north. Pacific Highway is a national highway and major transport route along the central east coast of Australia, with the majority of it being part of Australia's Highway 1. The highway and its adjoining Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and Brunswick Heads and Pacific Motorway between Sydney and Newcastle links the state capitals of Sydney in New South Wales with Brisbane in Queensland, approximately paralleling the Tasman Sea of the South Pacific Ocean coast, via Gosford, Newcastle, Taree, Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, and Ballina. Additionally, between Brunswick Heads and Port Macquarie (excepting for a short stretch around Coffs Harbour), the road is also signed as Pacific Motorway, but has not been legally gazetted as such. Glenworth Valley, New South Wales
Glenworth Valley is a suburb of the local government area in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. About north of Sydney and west of Gosford, at the it had a population of 10 people. Popran Creek runs through the entire valley and rises in the locality of Central Mangrove and then flows for approximately 24 km (15 mi) in a mostly southern direction until it reaches Mangrove Creek. History The history of Popran Creek and Glenworth Valley includes pre and post-European settlement. Indigenous people from the ' Daruk' and ' Darkinyung' communities populated the lower Hawkesbury region- migrating between valleys hunting and fishing. After initial exploration by Europeans primary industrial activities included timber getting, small farming, dairying and fishing. Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park is a wildlife sanctuary located in Calga, New South Wales, Australia. The wildlife park is home to Australian native birds, mammals and reptiles as well as farm animals. It offers research and education programs, with visitors able to undertake day and night tours.
