Frank Calabro
Francesco "Frank" Calabro, AM (3 January 1925 – 13 January 2011) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1970 to 1988. He was the first Italian-born person of Italian descent elected to any Australian parliament. Calabro was born in Sant'Alessio in Aspromonte near Reggio Calabria, Kingdom of Italy, to Antonio, a master bootmaker, and Maria Romeo. He arrived in Australia in 1934, having attended school in Italy; he then attended St Mary's Basilica Christian Brothers' at Sydney. In 1948, the family purchased a bus run at Bonnyrigg. In 1959, he was elected to Fairfield Councill, in which year he also became President of the Cabramatta Chamber of Commerce. He married Rosa Polimeni on 20 November 1963; they would have six children. Kevin Paul Calabro (born June 27, 1956) is an American sportscaster based in Seattle, Washington. The longtime voice of the former Seattle SuperSonics NBA franchise, Calabro has primarily called NBA basketball but has also announced collegiate football (alongside Yogi Roth) and basketball as well as MLS soccer. From 2016 to 2020, he served as the television play-by-play voice for the Portland Trail Blazers. He rejoined the Portland Trail Blazers as the Play-By-Play Voice for the 2021-22 season after stepping down in 2020 to be with his family in order to avoid exposure to COVID-19. Louis Calabro (November 1, 1926 – October 21, 1991) was an Italian American orchestral composer. Calabro studied piano and composition at Juilliard School of Music. Vincent Persichetti was his principal teacher there. Louis Calabro was a music professor at Bennington College of Vermont from 1955 until his death in 1991. He was a composer, teacher, conductor and a percussionist. Calabro's original music is published by Elkan-Vogel, Theodore Presser, Tuba Press and Morningstar Music. Calabro has over 100 works to his credit including music for traditional and non-traditional chamber combinations as well as for both large and small orchestral ensembles most notably in America.
