Caernarfon Castle 1994
Caernarfon (; ) is a List of place names with royal patronage in the United Kingdom, royal town, Community (Wales), community and port in Gwynedd, Wales, with a population of 9,852 (with Caeathro). It lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Anglesey, Isle of Anglesey. The city of Bangor, Gwynedd, Bangor is to the north-east, while Snowdonia fringes Caernarfon to the east and south-east. Carnarvon and Caernarvon are Anglicisation, Anglicised spellings that were superseded in 1926 and 1974 respectively. Abundant natural resources in and around the Menai Strait enabled human habitation in prehistoric Britain. The Ordovices, a list of Celtic tribes, Celtic tribe, lived in the region during the period known as Roman Britain. The castra, Roman fort Segontium was established around AD 80 to subjugate the Ordovices during the Roman conquest of Britain. Arfon (Senedd Cymru Constituency)
Arfon is a constituency of the Senedd. It was created for the former Assembly's 2007 election. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. Boundaries The constituency has the boundaries of the Arfon Westminster constituency, entirely within the preserved county of Gwynedd, which will come into use, also, for the 2010 United Kingdom general election. The new constituency merged areas currently within the Caernarfon constituency and the Conwy constituency. The Caernarfon constituency was entirely within the preserved county of Gwynedd. Roman Britain
Roman Britain was the period in classical antiquity when large parts of the island of Great Britain were under occupation by the Roman Empire. The occupation lasted from AD 43 to AD 410. During that time, the territory conquered was raised to the status of a Roman province. Julius Caesar invaded Britain in 55 and 54 BC as part of his Gallic Wars. According to Caesar, the Britons had been overrun or culturally assimilated by other Celtic tribes during the British Iron Age and had been aiding Caesar's enemies.
