Cadillac Gage Ranger
The Cadillac Gage Ranger is a four-wheeled armored personnel carrier produced by Cadillac Gage, built on a Dodge truck chassis. The largest customer was the United States Air Force, which the Ranger was marketed to in order to meet needed requirements as a security/patrol vehicle. The vehicle is no longer offered by Textron with trademarks cancelled. As of 2020, the Ranger's per unit replacement cost is at $230,720. History The Ranger was first produced in 1979 to meet a USAF requirement for its security forces, which was known as Peacekeeper. The first Rangers made were delivered in April 1980 with 571 vehicles under a contract of $30,532 each. In 1981, another order of 560 Rangers were made for the USAF and the US Navy. An armoured personnel carrier (APC) is a broad type of armoured military vehicle designed to transport personnel and equipment in combat zones. Since World War I, APCs have become a very common piece of military equipment around the world. According to the definition in the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, an APC is "an armoured combat vehicle which is designed and equipped to transport a combat infantry squad and which, as a rule, is armed with an integral or organic weapon of less than 20 millimetres calibre."
