Cable Ties (band)
Cable Ties are a punk rock band from Melbourne, Australia formed in 2015. Guitarist and singer Jenny McKechnie moved to Melbourne from Bendigo with a background in folk music, and was introduced to the city's burgeoning punk music scene by a friend, Grace Kindellan, who formed a band (Wet Lips) with McKechnie on bass guitar. McKechnie joined bassist Nick Brown and drummer Shauna Boyle to form Cable Ties in 2015, with the band naming itself after cable ties in reference to the band's "very physical but functional" sound. They played their earliest gigs at The Tote Hotel in Collingwood and The Old Bar in Fitzroy, and their first album, the self-titled ''Cable Ties'' was released in May 2017. The band is signed to Melbourne independent record label Poison City Records. Their second album, ''Far Enough'', was released internationally on American label Merge Records in March 2020. The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. The Music Victoria Awards of 2018 are the 13th Annual Music Victoria Awards and consist of a series of awards, presented on 21 November 2018, during Melbourne Music Week. The Music Victoria Awards (previously known as The Age EG Awards and The Age Music Victoria Awards) are an annual awards night celebrating music from the Australian state of Victoria. They commenced in 2006 and are awarded in Melbourne Music Week between October and December. The awards were initially an exclusively online public voted awards, changing in 2013. From 2020, to be eligible, all nominations must be taken from music released between July of the previous year to June of the current year, to bring the awards in line with the past financial year. The Compact Cassette or Musicassette (MC), also commonly called the tape cassette, cassette tape, audio cassette, or simply tape or cassette, is an analog magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In August 1982, the first compact disc was manufactured. It was then released in October 1982 in Japan and branded as ''Compact Disc Digital Audio, Digital Audio Compact Disc''. The Old Bar
The Old Bar (2001) is a bar and live music venue on the premises of 74–76 Johnston St, between Brunswick and Nicholson streets, in Fitzroy, an inner city suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The venue currently operates 7 days a week with performances most nights, often at no cost during the week. Residencies are also a regular occurrence at the venue, with a band playing one particular night of the week for the duration of a month, usually with different support acts each time. History The buildings on the site were constructed around the turn of the 20th century, appearing in postal records from 1903/04. The Tote Hotel
The Tote is a hotel, pub, bar, and live music venue located in Collingwood, Melbourne, Australia. The venue hosts many independent local, Australian and international acts, and carries a reputation for showcasing new and emerging independent musical acts of a variety of stylistic origins, having done so since the 1980s. The venue operates 5 days a week with performances across 3 settings, the "main stage", the "cobra bar" and the "front bar". It is located at 67-71 Johnston Street. The hotel is thought to have been built in 1870 as Healey's, becoming the Ivanhoe Hotel in 1876, and held by the Healey family until 1940, when it was renovated.
