The Cabinet of the Maldives is the most senior level of the executive branch of the Government of the Maldives. It is made up of the President, the Vice President, Attorney General and the Ministers. The Executive, also referred as the Executive branch or Executive power, is the term commonly used to describe that part of government which enforces the law, and has overall responsibility for the governance of a State (polity), state. In political systems based on the separation of powers, such as the United States of America, USA, government authority is distributed between several branches in order to prevent power being concentrated in the hands of a single person or group. Mohamed Asim (born 1960) is a Maldivian civil servant and diplomat who has been Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives 2016 to 2018. He graduated from the American University of Beirut with a B.A. in Public Administration in 1983, and holds an M.A. from California State University, Sacramento and a PhD in political science and international relations from the Australian National University. Minister Asim began his career in the Maldives civil service in 1983 at the President's Office.
