. In 2013, Dr Asim was appointed as Head of the Maldives Mission to the EU. In 2014, he was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Ambassador-at-Large with responsibility for the East, Central and South Asia Divisions, and was responsible for coordination of bilateral matters with countries in that region. He served in that role until 2015, when he was appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh. In 2016 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, succeeding
