The High Commission of the Maldives in London ( dv, އިނގިރޭސިވިލާތުގައި ހުންނަ ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ ހައިކޮމިޝަން) is the diplomatic mission of the Maldives in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1995 by upgrading the existing Maldives Government Trade Representative's Office; it was officially opened by former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. This mission had once been called the Embassy of the Maldives in London ( dv, އިނގިރޭސިވިލާތުގައި ހުންނަ ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ އެމްބަސީ) from October 2016, when the Maldives withdrew from the Commonwealth, to February 2020. The diplomatic mission reverted to being the High Commission of the Maldives on 1 February 2020, when the Maldives rejoined the Commonwealth. She served from 2009 until 2012 under President Mohamed Nasheed and was reappointed on April 18, 2019, by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (; dv, މައުމޫން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމް; born 29 December 1937) is a Maldivian politician and an Islamic scholar who served as the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as Minister of Transport, he was nominated as President by the Majlis (Parliament) of the Maldives and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in the October 2008 presidential election. In opposition, he continued to serve as leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party until January 2010, when he retired from active politics.
