Cascades, Isle Of Dogs
Cascades Tower is a 20-storey residential building and a distinctive local landmark on the Isle of Dogs in East London. It was designed by Rex Wilkinson, a partner in the celebrated architectural firm CZWG, and built in 1987–88. The building has a concrete frame with details inspired by riverside industry and nautical themes. It has 168 residential units. Overlooking River Thames, Cascades Tower is on 4 Westferry Road, Canary Wharf, E14 8JL. It stands on land just south of the old western entrance to South Dock of the original West India Docks. Piers Gough
Piers Gough (born 24 April 1946) is an architect in the practice CZWG. His younger brothers are the composer Orlando Gough and Jamie Gough, the University of Sheffield's senior lecturer in Town and Regional Planning. Gough was born in Brighton, grew up in Hove, and went to Uppingham School, Rutland. He studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and qualified in 1971. He co-founded the practice Campbell Zogolovitch Wilkinson and Gough, (now CZWG), in 1975. While working on his own house in east London in the 1970s, he fell through the floor and damaged his spine. The drop was only 10 feet but he was hospitalised for six months and now walks with the aid of a stick. He made his name with his work in the redevelopment of the London Docklands, including Cascades Apartment Tower on the Isle of Dogs (1988) and Canada Water Library (2011). Aztec West
Aztec West is a business park in South Gloucestershire, England, situated in the north of Bristol, near Bradley Stoke and Patchway. It is close to the M4 and M5 motorways and the Almondsbury Interchange. Adjacent is the A38 trunk road. History The park has been developed since the early 1980s, but some land is still available for future development. The name is said to derive from 'A to Z of Technology' and it was conceived as a science park. It was developed by the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme then sold to Arlington Securities in the mid-1980s. Architecture The buildings are in the high tech and postmodern styles and were designed by practices including Nicholas Grimshaw, Michael Aukett, SOM and CZWG. Brindleyplace
Brindleyplace is a large mixed-use canalside development, in the Westside district of Birmingham, England. It was named after Brindley Place, the name of the street (in turn named after the 18th century canal engineer James Brindley) around which it is built. It was developed by the Argent Group from 1993 onwards. In addition to shops, bars and restaurants, Brindleyplace is home to the National Sea Life Centre, Royal Bank of Scotland, Orion Media, Ikon Gallery of art and the Crescent Theatre. The site covers 17 acres (69,000 m²) of mixed-use redevelopment on a grand scale - the UK's largest such project. The Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line Canal separates Brindleyplace from the International Convention Centre, although there are linking bridges. John Hansard Gallery
The John Hansard Gallery is a contemporary visual art gallery and part of the University of Southampton. History The John Hansard Building was originally located in building 50 in the University of Southampton building coding scheme. It was built in 1959 and was originally designed to house a tidal model of the Solent. The architect was Ronald Sims. The building was converted to gallery use in 1979-1980. Relocation In 2018 the gallery moved to a new location in the centre of Southampton, opposite Guildhall Square, as part of a new arts complex. The new gallery opened on 12 May. The building it is in was designed by CZWG while the inside of the gallery was designed by Glenn Howells. Roger Zogolovitch
Roger Zogolovitch FRSA (born 1947) is a British architect and independent developer based in London. History Zogolovitch studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London (1965-1971), and served as president to the Architectural Association (1991–93). In 1976 he co-founded architecture practice CZWG, where he was a partner (1976-1986). He later established Lake Estates Ltd (1982); Charterhouse Estates Ltd with the Water Authorities Superannuation Fund WASF (1986–1990); and Solidspace (2003-ongoing), an independent developer. He was Director of the Infrastructure and Development course at the London School of Economics (1998-2003). He was appointed the Royal Academy of Arts’s Honorary Surveyor in 2015. Canada Water
Canada Water is an area of the Docklands in south-east London. It is named after a freshwater lake and wildlife refuge. Canada Water tube, Overground and bus station is immediately north of the lake, along with Canada Water Library which overhangs the lake and Deal Porter Square. Surrey Quays Shopping Centre is also adjacent, sitting immediately to the south. The surrounding area, which forms the town centre of Rotherhithe, is now increasingly known as Canada Water, after the transport interchange as much as the lake itself. Janet Street-Porter
Janet Vera Street-Porter (''née'' Bull; born 27 December 1946) is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and media personality. She began her career as a fashion writer and columnist at the ''Daily Mail'' and was later appointed fashion editor of the ''Evening Standard'' in 1971. In 1973, she co-presented a mid-morning radio show with Paul Callan on LBC. Street-Porter began working in television at London Weekend Television in 1975, first as a presenter of a series of mainly youth-oriented programmes.
