CTBC Taichung Headquarters
The CTBC Taichung Headquarters (), is a skyscraper office building located in Taichung's 7th Redevelopment Zone, Xitun District, Taichung, Taiwan. Construction of the building began in 2014 and it was completed in 2017. The height of the building is , the floor area is , and it comprises 28 floors above ground, as well as six basement levels. It houses the headquarters of CTBC Financial Holding as well as Taiwan Life Insurance. Design The building was designed by the Spanish architectural team EMBT led by the architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue. The design adopts an open and curved form in contrast to the traditional rectangular urban landscape, allowing the building to communicate and establish connections with the surrounding vertical buildings, thus creating a recognizable landmark in Taichung. Enric Miralles
Enric Miralles Moya (12 February 1955 – 3 July 2000) was a Spanish architect from Barcelona. He graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in 1978. After establishing his reputation with a number of collaborations with his first wife Carme Pinós, the couple separated in 1991. Miralles later married fellow architect Benedetta Tagliabue, and the two practiced together as EMBT Architects. Miralles' magnum opus and his largest project, the new Scottish Parliament Building, was unfinished at the time of his death. Life In 1978, Miralles completed his examinations at the ''Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura'' (ETSAB) in Barcelona. The CTBC Financial Park, or Chinatrust Commercial Bank Headquarters (), is a skyscraper office complex located in Nangang District, Taipei, Taiwan. Benedetta Tagliabue (born 24 June 1963) is an Italian architect. She lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. Education Tagliabue was born in Milan, Italy. In 1989, she graduated in Venice from the "Università Iuav di Venezia" in Italy. Presently, Benedetta Tagliabue teaches at the University of Architecture ETSAB (Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona) in Barcelona and lectures regularly in architectural forums. Xitun District
Xitun District or Situn District (, literally "western village") is the second-most populated district of Taichung, Taiwan. It is located on the western side of the city. Once considered part of the countryside, the district has seen rapid growth in recent years with department store and office towers in the redevelopment zone. Taichung City Hall is located in the district. History The original inhabitants of the area were the Pazeh people, who inhabited the Taichung Basin. The first Han settlers arrived in 1701, led by Liao Chao Kong () and Chang Da Jing (). As a result, the Pazeh people were pushed out of the area, and most of them migrated to Puli, Nantou. Taichung's 7th Redevelopment Zone
Taichung’s 7th Redevelopment Zone () is located in Xitun District and Nantun District, known to many local residents by its abbreviated Mandarin name "Qiqi" (七期). Before the Taichung's 7th Redevelopment Zone Plan, only a few farmhouses were scattered along a limited number of narrow streets.
