Harrigan (TV Series)
''Harrigan'' was a Canadian children's television series in the 1970s and 1980s. The show starred Barry Dale as Harrigan, a leprechaun. ''Harrigan'' was produced by Kingston, Ontario television station CKWS-TV, and aired across Canada in syndication. Part of the theme song included the words: "H - A - double R - I - G - A - N ... it's Harr-i-gan!" Portions of the half-hour program would involve the title character viewing hand drawn pictures submitted by his loyal fan-base of children by looking into his magical pot of gold. His co-star for these segments was Dale's daughter, Deb-Lyn. Miss Sunflower, who delivered the mail while riding a unicycle, was played by Dale's wife, Jo-Anna. Another segment would have Harrigan sitting with his good puppet friend Mr. Green (also played by Deb-Lyn) as they read a book to the children watching. CKWS-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 104.3 FM in Kingston, Ontario. The station airs a hot adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''104.3 Fresh Radio''. The station is owned by Corus Entertainment, which also owns CFMK-FM and CKWS-DT. History The station was launched in 1942 as CKWS, a CBC Trans-Canada Network affiliate taking over CBC responsibilities from Queen's University radio station CFRC. When CKLC launched, it became affiliated with the CBC's Dominion Network while CKWS remained with the main CBC network. Broadcasting on 960 AM, CKWS was owned by Allied Broadcasting, a partnership of Roy Thomson and Rupert Davies, owner of the ''Kingston Whig-Standard'' newspaper. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, the station maintains studios on Monaghan Road (near Rose Avenue) in the southern portion of Peterborough, and its transmitter is located on Television Hill, just outside the city. History The station signed on the air on March 26, 1955 as an independently-owned affiliate of CBC Television; its inaugural broadcast was a National Hockey League ice hockey game. Wolfe Island (Ontario)
Wolfe Island is an island at the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River in Lake Ontario near Kingston, Ontario. Wolfe Island is part of Frontenac County, Ontario and the Township of Frontenac Islands. It is the largest of the Thousand Islands. The largest community on the island is Marysville, Frontenac County, Ontario, Marysville. Roy Herbert Thomson, 1st Baron Thomson of Fleet, (5 June 1894 – 4 August 1976) was a Canadian-born British newspaper proprietor who became one of the moguls of Fleet Street in London. He first came to prominence when he was selling radios in Ontario, and to give his customers more programmes to listen to, decided to launch his own radio station. Leprechaun
A leprechaun ( ga, leipreachán/luchorpán) is a diminutive supernatural being in Irish folklore, classed by some as a type of solitary fairy. They are usually depicted as little bearded men, wearing a coat and hat, who partake in mischief. In later times, they have been depicted as shoe-makers who have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Leprechaun-like creatures rarely appear in Irish mythology and only became prominent in later folklore. Shelagh Rogers
Shelagh Rogers, OC, is a Canadian broadcast journalist based in British Columbia. She is the host and producer of CBC Radio One's '' The Next Chapter'', and former chancellor of the University of Victoria. Background Rogers grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. Rogers began in broadcasting at CFRC, the campus radio station of Queen's University. She also worked at Kingston, Ontario's CKWS, hosting a country music program while still a student at Queen's. Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter.
