CJSR-FM (''CJSR FM 88'') is a Canadian campus-based community radio station, broadcasting at 88.5 FM in Edmonton, Alberta. The CJSR studios are located in the Students' Union Building of the University of Alberta, while its transmitter is located atop the building. CJSR is a volunteer-run campus and community radio station with a stated mission, "to enlighten and entertain our audience through high quality and diverse programming that constantly challenges the status quo." Programming CJSR plays a diverse range of musical genres and spoken-word programming. The station is home to nationally syndicated shows like Terra Informa, and was the home of the early version of Science for the People (podcast). ''Terra Informa'' is a weekly, half-hour environmental news program produced out of CJSR Radio in Edmonton, Alberta. Currently airing in more than 50 communities from coast to coast, it is one of the most widely broadcast shows on Canadian campus and community radio. The program covers environmentally themed news stories from across Canada with an emphasis on grassroots movements and under-reported stories. Billing itself as, "Your source for the news that the mainstream media missed," the show's reports frequently include interviews with directly affected communities and members of local First Nations, in addition to politicians, academics, and environmental groups. The National Campus and Community Radio Association/L'Association nationale des radios étudiantes et communautaires (NCRA/ANREC) is a non-profit organization of campus radio and community radio stations in Canada. Science For The People (podcast)
''Science for the People'' (formerly ''Skeptically Speaking'') is an Edmonton-based, weekly podcast and radio show that aims to explore issues pertaining to science, skepticism and rational thinking through interviews. The show has featured interviews with prominent skeptics, researchers, and scientists including Adam Savage, Derek Colanduno, Phil Plait, and Carl Zimmer. Production ''Science for the People'' is hosted by Desiree Schell, and produced by Rachelle Saunders. The show's theme song is by Edmonton band Fractal Pattern, and is called "Binary Consequence". The podcast's first episode, on the subject of the secular movement in Alberta, was broadcast on the 20th of March 2009. Since then, a show has been offered every week. CKUA
The CKUA Radio Network is a Canadian donor-funded community radio network based in Edmonton, Alberta. Originally located on the campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton (hence the UA of the call letters), it was the first public broadcaster in Canada when it began broadcasting in 1927. The hertz (symbol: Hz) is the unit of frequency in the International System of Units (SI), equivalent to one event (or cycle) per second.
