CKLD-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting a soft adult contemporary format at 105.5 FM in Thetford Mines, Quebec. It shares the programming of sister station CFDA-FM in Victoriaville. The stations air the same programming at all times, although both stations produce a portion of the shared broadcast schedule from separate studios. Their CHR sister station CFJO-FM also produces programming in both cities, although it serves the region from a single 100-kilowatt transmitter. History The station was launched on February 12, 1950 by Radio Mégantic. Broadcasting on 1230 AM, it was a private affiliate of the Radio-Canada network. François Labbé became president of the company in 1965. The station moved to 1330 AM in 1976, and disaffiliated from Radio-Canada in 1979. The station moved to its current frequency in 1999. François Labbé
François Labbé (September 23, 1928 – December 24, 2018) was a Canadian mass media owner who started the first commercial French-language radio network in Canada, the Réseau des Appalaches, in 1972. Life and career Born in Thetford Mines, Quebec on September 23, 1928, the son of former Member of Parliament and Thetford Mines mayor Tancrède Labbé, Labbé studied Commerce at Laval University. He acquired CKLD in Thetford Mines in 1959. In 1968, he founded CKFL, an AM radio station in Lac-Mégantic, and in 1970 he bought CFDA in Victoriaville. In 1972, he founded CKTL in Plessisville and CJAN in Asbestos. The radio stations became the Réseau des Appalaches. In 1977, Labbé founded CJLP in Disraeli, which became the sixth station in the Réseau des Appalaches. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications".
