The French Democratic Confederation of Labour (french: link=no, Confédération française démocratique du travail, CFDT) is a national trade union center, one of the five major French confederations of trade unions, led since 2012 by Laurent Berger. It is the largest French trade union confederation by number of members (875,000) but comes only second after the Confédération générale du travail (CGT) in voting results for representative bodies. Laurent Berger
Laurent Berger (born 27 October 1968 in Guérande, Loire-Atlantique) is a French trade unionist. He has been the general secretary of the French Democratic Confederation of Labour (CFDT) since 28 November 2012. Life Youth Laurent Berger is the son of a worker of the Chantiers de l'Atlantique and of a child care assistant. During his studies, he was a supervisor in a high school. He joined the French Democratic Confederation of Labour at that time. After he earned a master's degree in history from Nantes University, he became a permanent staff member of the Young Christian Workers (YCW) in 1991. He was the general secretary of the YCW from 1992 to 1994. He was subsequently unemployed for six months and was intermittently a substitute teacher of history and geography. He was employed by a social insertion association in Saint-Nazaire to help long-term unemployed adults and RMI beneficiaries to find jobs. François Chérèque
François Chérèque (1 June 1956 – 2 January 2017) was a French Trade unionist, and leader of the French trade union CFDT (French Democratic Confederation of Labour or ''Confédération française démocratique du travail''). Early life François Chérèque was born in Nancy department of Lorraine (region). His father, Jacques Chérèque, served as the vice-president of the CFDT. His brother, Marc Chérèque, went on to serve as the President, since 2005, of FC Grenoble. Another brother was vice-president from 2009 to 2011 of Amadeus IT Group. Chérèque went to the Lycée Notre-Dame Saint-Sigisbert, leaving in 1975. Career Chérèque worked for a hospital in Puteaux in Paris, then worked at a hospital in Digne-les-Bains, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of south-east France. The Federation of Services (french: Fédération des Services) is a trade union representing workers in a variety of industries in France, particularly office workers. The union was founded in 1913, as the French Federation of Catholic Employees' Unions, under the presidency of Jules Zirnheld. In 1919, it became a founding affiliate of the French Confederation of Christian Workers (CFTC). It was banned during World War II, but was re-established after the war. The Solidaires or Solidaires Unitaires Démocratiques (SUD) is a French group of trade unions. Political position They tend to favor progressive or even radical views and work with the alter-globalization or anti-globalization movement. The Group of 10 and the SUD Unions are part of the European Social Forum and the World Social Forum.
