CBCX-FM
CBCX-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts Radio-Canada's Ici Musique network at 89.7 FM in Calgary, Alberta. CBCX's studios are located in the Cambrian Wellness Centre, northwest of downtown Calgary, while its transmitter is located at Old Banff Coach Road and 85 Street Southwest in Calgary. The station also has a class A rebroadcaster CBCX-FM-1 in Edmonton at 101.1 MHz, at 3,931 watts. Both of the station's transmitters were licensed in 2002 and launched in early 2003. On January 20, 2012, it was announced that Radio-Canada have plans to close down the AM transmitter of Edmonton's Première Chaîne outlet, CHFA, and swap frequencies between its nested repeater in Edmonton, CHFA-10-FM (101.1), and the much-stronger CBCX-FM-1 (90.1). CHFA-FM
CHFA-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of Radio-Canada's Ici Radio-Canada Première network in Edmonton, Alberta. The station was launched in 1949 by a local non-profit consortium to bring French radio service to Edmonton, and was directly acquired by the network in 1974. The station serves the entire province of Alberta from its studios in Edmonton, although it also maintains a smaller bureau in Calgary. For most of its history, the station broadcast at 680 AM. On January 20, 2012, it was announced that Radio-Canada planned to close down CHFA's AM transmitter at 680, with its nested FM repeater in Edmonton, CHFA-10-FM at 101.1 MHz, swapping places with the much-stronger Espace musique station CBCX-FM-1 at 90.1 MHz. Ici Musique (stylized as ICI Musique) is the French-language music radio service of Canada's national public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (''Société Radio-Canada''). It is the French equivalent of the English CBC Music, although it has a different programming focus. History The network was originally launched as ''Le FM de Radio-Canada'' in 1974, with stations in Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Chicoutimi. The network grew slowly. For a long time, its only full-fledged stations outside of Quebec were in Ottawa and Moncton. Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French language, French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the Public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Canada. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) is a Canadian nonprofit organization which documents the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television. Since 1995, the organization has distributed its collection via an internet website.
