C. Richard Fiore
C. Richard Fiore (July 18, 1931 – July 12, 2003) was an American Republican Party politician who served two terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. Fiore (along with Ralph R. Caputo) was elected as a Republican to the State Assembly in 1967, defeating Eugene Molinaro and Warren Davis in the Republican primary and Democratic incumbents Armand Lembo and Joseph Biancardi. They represented Essex County's District 11C. Fiore and Caputo were re-elected in 1969 against Democrats Carmen Orechio and Joseph Iannuzzi. Fiore lost his bid for a third term in 1971, losing a multi-candidate General Election. The winners were Independent Anthony Imperiale and Democrat Frank G. Megaro, who received 13,857 and 12,436 votes, respectively. New Jersey General Assembly
The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature. Since the election of 1967 (1968 Session), the Assembly has consisted of 80 members. Two members are elected from each of New Jersey's 40 legislative districts for a term of two years, each representing districts with average populations of 232,225 (2020 figures), with deviation in each district not exceeding 3.21% above and below that average. To be eligible to run, a potential candidate must be at least 21 years of age, and must have lived in their district for at least one year prior to the election, and have lived in the state of New Jersey for two years. They also must be residents of their districts. Membership in the Assembly is considered a part-time job, and many members have employment in addition to their legislative work. Hugh Joseph Addonizio (January 31, 1914 – February 2, 1981) was an American Democratic Party politician who was sentenced to prison for corruption. He was the 33rd Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, from 1962 to 1970, and a U.S. Congressman from 1949 to 1962. Early life and education Born in Newark to an Italian family, Addonizio attended West Side High School and played quarterback at Saint Benedict's Preparatory School. Addonizio graduated from Fordham University in New York City in 1939, attending with an athletic scholarship, and went to work for A&C Clothing Company, working for his father, where he became vice president in 1946. Joseph Woodcock
Joseph C. Woodcock, Jr. (November 20, 1925 – November 2, 1997) was an American Republican Party politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly, the New Jersey Senate, and as Bergen County Prosecutor. He served in the Assembly for six years, from 1962 - 1967, and in the State Senate for six years, from 1968 - 1973. Woodcock was defeated in 1973 for a third term in the Senate. After the election, he resigned his seat to become Bergen County Prosecutor. In 1977, Woodcock entered the NJ gubernatorial race but withdrew before the primary when Bergen County GOP party leadership failed to endorse him. The following year, Woodcock led an insurgent ticket of Republican candidates, challenging Bergen County GOP party leadership in the 1978 Republican Primary. Paul Policastro
Paul Policastro (August 29, 1900 – November 4, 1981) was an American Democratic Party politician who served five terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. He was a graduate of Lafayette College and Rutgers Law School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served on the Newark Board of Adjustment from 1953 to 1954. He first ran for the State Assembly in 1959, but lost. He ran again in 1961 and won. He was re-elected in 1963, 1965, 1967, and 1969. He served as Assistant Majority Leader in 1966 and as Majority Leader in 1967. Had Democrats not lost the majority in the 1967 election, Policastro was expected to become Assembly Speaker. In 1971, Policastro lost his bid for re-election to a fifth term, losing to an independent candidate, Newark vigilante leader Anthony Imperiale.
