C.D. Lenca
Deportivo Lenca was a Honduran soccer club based on El Progreso, Honduras. It played in Liga de Ascenso de Honduras but in 2008 it was bought by ''Club Junior'' from El Negrito, Yoro. They currently play in Liga Mayor de Honduras. Their name derives from the Lenca people and their emblem once feature the Chief Lempira, a national hero in Honduras. El Progreso
El Progreso () is a city, with a population of 119,260 (2020 calculation), and a municipality located in the Honduran department of Yoro. Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport of San Pedro Sula is located west of the city. To the east of the city is the mountain range of Mico Quemado (Burned Monkey). El Progreso is located at a crossroads. Due to its strategic location, many travellers or tourists pass through el Progreso in one way or another. Liga Mayor de Honduras (Honduran Major League) is the third division of football in Honduras. It is composed of separate departmental leagues. The league is divided into two regions, North and South. Both regions are further divided into two groups (four total). Promotion to Liga de Ascenso de Honduras is decided by a promotion final in each region (one in the North and one in the South). Yoro
Yoro, with a population of 25,560 (2020 calculation), is the capital city of the Yoro Department of Honduras and the municipal seat of Yoro Municipality. It is notable for a local event known as Lluvia de Peces, where it is claimed that strong storms make fish fall from the sky. Lenca People
The Lenca or Lepawiran "people of the jaguar" are from present day southwest Honduras and eastern El Salvador in Central America. They once spoke many Dialects such as Chilanga, Putun, Kotik etc. Although there were different dialects, they understood and coexisted with each other. These dialects are now nearly extinct. In Honduras, the Lenca are the largest tribal group, with an estimated population of more than 450,000. The pre-Conquest Lenca had frequent contact with various Mayan groups as well as other sovereign tribal people of the territory of present-day Mexico and Central America. Lempira (Lenca Ruler)
Lempira was a warrior chieftain of the Lencas of western Honduras in Central America during the 1530s, when he led resistance to Francisco de Montejo's attempts to conquer and incorporate the region into the province of Honduras. Mentioned as ''Lempira'' in documents written during the Spanish conquest, he is regarded by the people as a warrior hero whom the conquistadors feared, since they couldn’t kill him. The Spaniards sent a messenger to tell him they wanted “peace” but when he showed up they captured him, dismembered his body, and buried him in undisclosed locations so no one could pay him respects.
