Brazilian Rock Music
Brazilian rock refers to rock music produced in Brazil and usually sung in Portuguese. In the 1960s it was known as , from the Portuguese transcription of the line "Yeah, yeah, yeah" from the Beatles song "She Loves You". Overview Rock entered the Brazilian music scene in 1956, with the screening of the film ''The Blackboard Jungle'', featuring Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock", which would later be covered in Portuguese by Nora Ney. The electric guitar was already used in Brazil in 1948, in Salvador carnival bloc of Dodô e Osmar. ''Blackboard Jungle'' is a 1955 American social drama film about an English teacher in an interracial inner-city school, based on the 1954 novel ''The Blackboard Jungle'' by Evan Hunter and adapted for the screen and directed by Richard Brooks. It is remembered for its innovative use of rock and roll in its soundtrack, for casting grown adults as high school teens, and for the unique breakout role of a black cast member, film icon Sidney Poitier, as a rebellious yet musically talented student. Krisiun
Krisiun is a Brazilian death metal band, founded by brothers Alex Camargo (bass, vocals) (Born March 11, 1972), Moyses Kolesne (guitars) (Born August 11, 1973) and Max Kolesne (drums) (Born June 12, 1974). Since its formation in 1990, the group recorded two demos, ''Evil Age'' in 1991 and ''Curse of the Evil One'' in 1992, and self-released an extended play (EP) titled ''Unmerciful Order'' in 1993. After signing with Dynamo Records (a Brazilian label), Krisiun released the debut full-length ''Black Force Domain'' in 1995, followed by ''Apocalyptic Revelation'', in 1998. Viper is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in 1985 initially influenced by Iron Maiden and the new wave of British heavy metal, later developing a very particular sound. History Viper recorded their first demo tape in 1985, '' The Killera Sword'', and in 1987, they released their first album, ''Soldiers of Sunrise'' — which, despite the simple production, and the somewhat flawed English in the lyrics, showcased the degree of talent and skill of the band's members, all of them teenagers at the time. Angra (band)
Angra is a Brazilian power metal band formed in 1991. They have released nine regular studio albums, five EPs, and three live CD/DVDs to date. Led by Rafael Bittencourt, the band has gained a degree of popularity in Japan and Europe. History Formation Angra was formed in November 1991 by Santa Marcelina Music College students vocalist Andre Matos and guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and André Linhares. Trio Elétrico
Trio elétrico (, ''electric trio'') is a kind of truck or float equipped with a high-power sound system and a stage for music performance on the top, playing for the crowd as it drives through the cities. It was created in Bahia specifically for Carnival and it is now used in similar events in other districts and countries. This setup is used in Brazilian Carnival inside the '' blocos carnavalescos'' and other festivals in Brazil, specially in '' micaretas''. Electric Guitar
An electric guitar is a guitar that requires external amplification in order to be heard at typical performance volumes, unlike a standard acoustic guitar (however combinations of the two - a semi-acoustic guitar and an electric acoustic guitar exist). It uses one or more pickups to convert the vibration of its strings into electrical signals, which ultimately are reproduced as sound by loudspeakers. The sound is sometimes shaped or electronically altered to achieve different timbres or tonal qualities on the amplifier settings or the knobs on the guitar from that of an acoustic guitar. Nora Ney
Nora Ney (b. Iracema de Sousa Ferreira, Rio de Janeiro, March 20, 1922 - Rio de Janeiro, October 2003) was a Brazilian singer. She is also the most notable interpreter of the samba-canção music style and a pioneer of the Brazilian rock. She first approached music by playing guitar by herself, and the father, in order to motivate, offered the instrument as a birthday gift. Along with Maysa Matarazzo, Ângela Maria and Dolores Duran, was consecrated as the greatest samba-canção interpreter (emerged in the thirties). Often compared to ''bolero'', for the featured exaltation and exploration of romantic love or the suffering of a non accomplished love affair was also called "''elbow ache''" (''jealousy'', ''heart ache'').
