2023–24 PWHL Season
The 2023–24 PWHL season was the first season of operation of the Professional Women's Hockey League, and began play on January 1, 2024. Six teams competed during the inaugural season, located in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Boston, Ottawa, and Minneapolis–Saint Paul. The season culminated in a two-round best-of-five playoff including the top four teams to determine the season champion. PWHL Toronto topped the regular season standings with 17 wins and 47 points. In the playoffs, PWHL Minnesota won the inaugural Walter Cup, defeating PWHL Boston in a 5-game series for the title. Professional Women's Hockey League
The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL; , ''LPHF'') is a Professional sports, professional Ice hockey#Women's ice hockey, women's ice hockey league in North America, wholly owned and operated by the Mark Walter, Mark Walter Group. It consists of six franchises, three each from Canada and the United States, who play a Season (sports), regular season of matches to earn one of four places in a Playoffs, postseason tournament that determines the champion. Premier Hockey Federation
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), formerly the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), is a women's professional ice hockey league located in the United States and Canada. The league was established in 2015 with four league-owned teams and has since grown to a mixture of seven independently owned teams: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force and Toronto Six. The Isobel Cup, the league's championship trophy, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season. 2023 PWHL Draft
The 2023 PWHL Draft was the first draft in Professional Women's Hockey League history, and took place on September 18, 2023, at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Taylor Heise was the first player chosen in the draft, selected by Minnesota. In all, 90 players were selected over 15 rounds of drafting. Emerance Maschmeyer
Emerance Maschmeyer (born October 5, 1994) is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender for Team Bauer, playing from the Montréal hub of the PWHPA. She is a member of Canada women's national ice hockey team (Team Canada), with whom she won the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship and the 2022 Winter Olympics gold medal. She first made her debut with Team Canada at the 2014 4 Nations Cup. Playing career Maschmeyer was the second female goalie to compete in the Brick Tournament in Edmonton. A meeting was set up at the tournament for her to meet Shannon Szabados, and since then, the two have stayed in contact. She played against her brother Brock, who played for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, and stopped him in a shoot-out. Maschmeyer played two exhibition games during the 2010–11 season with the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL. Brianne Jenner
Brianne Alexandra Jenner (born May 4, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player and a member of Canada's national women's hockey team, currently affiliated with the Toronto chapter of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). She made her debut for Canada at the 2010 Four Nations Cup and won a gold medal. She was also a member of the Cornell Big Red women's ice hockey program. Playing career In high school, Jenner was the Appleby College hockey team captain. Jenner played junior hockey in the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL) with the Stoney Creek Sabres. Emily Clark (ice Hockey)
Emily Clark (born November 28, 1995) is a Canadian ice hockey player for the Montréal section of the PWHPA and has competed for the Canadian national Under-18 team in 2011. She made her debut with the Canada women's national ice hockey team at the 2014 4 Nations Cup. In the autumn of 2014, she joined the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program. She also competed with the Canadian National team at the 2018 Winter Olympics where she helped Canada win a silver medal. Early life Clark was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on November 28, 1995. She was the youngest of six children, all of whom played hockey, and her father served as a local coach. Gina Kingsbury (born November 26, 1981) is a Canadian former women's professional ice hockey player. She graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in psychology, and ranks second all-time in scoring among St. Lawrence Skating Saints women's ice hockey players. Playing career Besides hockey, Kingsbury participated in field hockey and softball as a student at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Pascal Daoust
Pascal Daoust is a Canadian ice hockey executive, the first and current General manager (sports), general manager of PWHL New York, New York of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Career Daoust received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the Université de Montréal in 1999. He was an assistant coach for their Montreal Carabins women's ice hockey, women's hockey program from 2010 to 2016, winning two national championships in that time. He also served as assistant coach of Les Canadiennes de Montreal in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Following his time with the Carabins, Daoust was general manager (sports), general manager of the Val-d'Or Foreurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, also serving as interim head coach on multiple occasions. Natalie Darwitz
Natalie Rose Darwitz (born October 13, 1983) is an American ice hockey player. Natalie was the Captain of the US Women's National Team for several seasons beginning with the 2007–08 season. She won three World Championships between 2005 and 2009, and two Olympic silver medals and one bronze medal in Women's ice hockey for the US. She is currently the assistant coach for the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey team. Career biography Darwitz began skating at the age of five, and attended Eagan High School.
