Suriname
Suriname (; srn, Sranankondre or ), officially the Republic of Suriname ( nl, Republiek Suriname , srn, Ripolik fu Sranan), is a country on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west, and Brazil to the south. At just under , it is the smallest sovereign state in South America. Bas Mulder
Sebastianus "Bas" Adrianus Wilhelmus Rudolfus Mulder (17 July 1931 – 10 April 2020) was a Dutch-Surinamese Catholic priest. Mulder was born in Beugen near the town of Boxmeer in the Netherlands. As a missionary of the Catholic Church, Mulder moved from the Netherlands to Suriname in 1959. After Surinamese independence in 1975, he also received Surinamese nationality.De TelegraafMartelingen, Showprocessen en de nieuwe vriendjespolitiek 29 November 1980 He would live there for 50 years, his entire active life. Mulder was known as a 'youth priest' and as a 'media priest' appearing on Radio Apintie and since 1966 STVS. Soeki Irodikromo
Soekidjan Irodikromo (20 June 1945 – 18 August 2020) was a Surinamese painter and ceramics artist. He was born in Plantage Pieterszorg, Commewijne District. Along with Erwin de Vries, Ruben Karsters, Rudi de la Fuente, and Paul Woei, he was one of a number of Surinamese artists to have emerged during the 1960s. Stylistically, his work owes a good deal to the COBRA movement, and uses themes from Javanese mythology. Jules Sedney
Jules Sedney (28 September 192218 June 2020) was a Surinamese politician, and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980, he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname, but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989. Early years and education Sedney was born in Paramaribo. In 1939, Sedney was certified as a classroom assistant, and began working. He passed the customs officer certification exam in 1942 and became a customs officer in Paramaribo. In 1948, Sedney left for Amsterdam to study economics at the University of Amsterdam. During his studies, he joined the organisation ''Wie Eegie Sanie'' (Our Own Things), founded by Eddy Bruma to promote Sranan Tongo and Surinamese culture. Ietje Paalman-de Miranda
Aïda Beatrijs “Ietje” Paalman-de Miranda (20 February 1936 – 11 May 2020) was a Surinamese-born Dutch mathematician and full professor. She was born in Uitvlugt, Paramaribo. When she was 17 years old she moved from Suriname to the Netherlands to study mathematics at the University of Amsterdam. In that era it was very unusual to study mathematics and she was the only woman at the faculty. She graduated cum laude on 23 November 1960. She started a PhD with Johannes de Groot as her supervisor. She defended her PhD thesis "Topological Semigroups" and obtained her degree in 1960, also cum laude. In 1980 she became full professor in pure mathematics, becoming the first female full professor of mathematics in Amsterdam. Research Paalman's research was foremost in topology and set theory. Emile Wijntuin
Emile Linus Alfred Wijntuin (22 September 1924 – 7 May 2020) was a Surinamese politician who served as Chairman of the National Assembly of Suriname from 1975 until the aftermath of the 1980 Surinamese coup d'état. Wijntuin was a member of the Progressive Surinamese People's Party (PSV). Biography Wijntuin was born in the Coronie District on 22 September 1924 in a family of farmers. At age 12, he was sent to Paramaribo for high school education. In 1943, he became an assistant teacher and received his teaching degree in 1947. During this period, he befriended father Jozef Weidmann and became interested in politics. In August 1926, Weidmann was one of the founder of PSV as a Christian democratic party. Wijntuin joined the PSV shortly after its foundation. He first ran for office in 1955, but lost to Johan Kraag. From 1958 to 1967 and 1968 to 1980, he was a member of the National Assembly. Rinaldo Entingh
Rinaldo Stanley Entingh (June 9, 1953) is a former Surinamese footballer. He played as a midfielder in the SVB Hoofdklasse for S.V. Robinhood and for the Suriname national team. Biography Entingh was born June 9, 1953. He began his career with S.V. Robinhood where he progressed through the youth ranks. Through the seventies he formed the attack of the first team together with Errol Emanuelson and Roy George in what would be one of the club's most successful periods. Helping Robinhood to 4 appearances in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup finals in 1976, 1977, 1982, 1983. With Robinhood, Entingh would champion the Hoofdklasse nine times, namely in 1975, 1976, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, also winning the Surinamese Footballer of the Year award in 1974 and in 1983. Hans Prade
Hans Orlando Prade (23 July 1938 – 3 April 2020) was a Surinamese diplomat and politician. After graduating from Leiden University, Prade returned to Suriname, and founded the short lived Nationale Volkspartij together with Ronald Venetiaan. Later Prade became a member of the Progressieve Nationale Partij. During the coup, Prade was a commentator on Suriname radio. Prade served as the Surinamese ambassador to the Netherlands from 24 December 1980 until 1 June 1982. His political and undiplomatic statements were not appreciated by the regime and he was dismissed on 1 June 1982. In 1986, Prade became chairman of the , a position which he held for about 10 years. In 1991, he tried to run for President of Suriname, but lost out to his former college friend Venetiaan. In 1998, Prade retired and decided to live with his family in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
