2018 Alabama Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Alabama on November 6, 2018. All Alabama executive officers were up for election along with all of Alabama's seven seats in the United States House of Representatives. Primary elections took place on June 5, 2018, for both major parties. Governor Incumbent Republican Governor Kay Ivey, who assumed the office upon the resignation of Robert J. Bentley in April 2017, ran for election to a full term against Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and independent write-in Chad Chig Martin. Kay Ivey won with 60% of the votes. Lieutenant governor The office of Lieutenant Governor was vacant prior to the election. State House Representative Will Ainsworth, State Senator Rusty Glover, and Public Service Commission President Twinkle Cavanaugh were running for the Republican nomination. Don Siegelman
Donald Eugene Siegelman ( ; born February 24, 1946) is a former American politician, lawyer and convicted felon who was the 51st governor of Alabama from 1999 to 2003. A member of the Democratic Party, as of , Siegelman is the last Democrat, as well as the only Catholic, to serve as Governor of Alabama. Siegelman is the only person in Alabama's history to be elected to serve in all four of the top statewide elected offices: Secretary of State, Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor and Governor. Rick Pate
Rick Pate (born April 6, 1955) is an American politician serving as the 30th Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries in Alabama. He previously served as mayor of Lowndesboro, Alabama from 2004 until his election as Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries in January 2019. He also served as chair of the Lowndes County Republican Party. Pate graduated from Auburn University School of Agriculture in 1978. He is married to Julie Dismukes and they have two children. Lowndes County is in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was 10,311. Its county seat is Hayneville. The county is named in honor of William Lowndes, a member of the United States Congress from South Carolina. Lowndes County is part of the Montgomery, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. Historically it has been considered part of the Black Belt, known for its fertile soil, cotton plantations, and high number of African American workers, enslaved and later freed. Lowndesboro, Alabama
Lowndesboro is a town in Lowndes County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 115, down from 140 in 2000. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. Although initially incorporated in 1856 by an act of the state legislature, it lapsed and was not reincorporated until 1962. As of the 2000 and 2010 U.S. Censuses, Lowndesboro, along with Benton, are the only two towns (out of 7) in Lowndes County with a white majority of residents. Both are the 6th (Lowndesboro) and 7th (Benton) smallest communities. History Originally known as McGill's Hill, the community began attracting settlers following the conclusion of the Creek War. John McMillan (Alabama Politician)
John Murphy McMillan Jr. (born July 6, 1941) is an American politician who served as the 40th Treasurer of Alabama. He was elected as a Republican in November 2010 to the office of Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. He was elected to a second four-year term in 2014. In 2018, McMillan won the Republican primary election for State Treasurer, and had no Democratic opposition on the general election ballot. Young Jacob Boozer III (born November 23, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 39th State Treasurer of Alabama from 2011 to 2019. He was elected to his first four-year term on November 2, 2010, and was unopposed and reelected for a second term on November 4, 2014. He left office on January 14, 2019. The Alabama State Treasurer acts as the head banker for the State of Alabama, handling deposits, withdrawals, redemptions of state warrants and investments of state funds. The position was created in 1819 when Alabama became a state. Its constitution established the Office of the Treasurer of State, a position that would be elected by the legislature. Individuals serving as state treasurer were elected annually by the General Assembly from 1819 to 1861. Beginning in 1861, the treasurer was elected biennially from until 1868 and was elected by popular vote for a term of two years in 1868. Jim Zeigler (born May 23, 1948) is an American lawyer and politician who served as state auditor of Alabama from 2015 to 2023. Before becoming state auditor, he served on the Alabama Public Service Commission from 1974 to 1978. Early life and education While a student at the University of Alabama, Zeigler served as the president of the Student Government Association (SGA). Zeigler lived at Mallet Hall from 1966 to 1970, and served as SGA president from 1970-71.
